Classroom Management Interview

Classroom management is an essential component for a positive educational environment, is what I took away from the interview. I was quite fortunate to be able to interview the new assistant principal at Crosby High School. This is her first year as an assistant principal, although she did spend a good portion of last year as an interim assistant principal. Before obtaining her assistant principal position, she was a teacher for more than 15 years. Therefore, if anyone would know about classroom management, it would be her. I actually had the pleasure of observing her in the classroom and witness her savvy classroom management techniques.
One of the first techniques we discussed was from day one setting a tone in the classroom. This is your opportunity to start the school year on the right foot. The first day sets the tone for behavior, work habits, respect, and responsibility. Therefore, it should resonate who you are and what you expect from the students. In the first couple of days of school it is important to go over classroom rules and consequences to breaking the rules, showing the classroom, where everything is located in the classroom, and discussing evacuation procedures. Developing a good relationship with parents, through communication is essential for teachers. When their communication between teachers and parents, they know that there is a partnership. Whenever there is communication, whether it be phone calls, emails, letters, or meeting between parents and teacher or administration, she always tries to use this partnership term in the conversation. The relationship between the parents and school is truly a partnership, and they need to work together. When students know there is contact with the parents they will think twice before misbehaving, because they know you will follow through with contacting their
