I interview first grade teacher Glenda Pertierra. She has been teaching as a full-time teacher for over 22 years she is currently working at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Early Childhood Center. She has a Bachelor’s degree certified in Elementary 1-6, media specialist PK-12 and is ESOL endorsed. Mrs. Pertierra had been working with MDCPS since 1989but wasn’t a full-time teacher until 1994. She gave me her responses to some questions I found interesting and wanted more insight on. I first wanted to know what is was that she gave parents during open house. Knowing that I am a shy individual having an idea of the preparation that goes into getting ready for open house will greatly help me. She informed me that there is a powerpoint that she has that has the basic information that should be included in open house. Mrs. Pertierra told me that in her presentation she includes the subject that the students will be learning with her, the policy the school has based academics, and if she has wish list for the class that year. She also told me how the many way she wants to influence the students is by teaching them to have structure and organized life. In which, they can develop an understanding for each other and what needs to be accomplished. She ended the response with “I like to …show more content…
Pertierra what are some other ways she “tests” her students. She let me know that she observes how the students apply their knowledge to the activity they have. When she isn’t testing her students that his how she assesses them, as well as observing their cooperation skills in class. When I asked her about the environment of her classroom she explained to me that she has the students set in groups that enable them to work together on assignments and engage in teacher directed lessons. She also has multiple centers in her room that the students rotate through in the day, such as a small computer station and a reading
