When you make good use of space and arrange your classroom to feel open and spacious you are helping to influence how children behave, what they do, and how they achieve their goals. Having a well-designed classroom/ environment helps support children’s emotional well-being, will stimulate their senses, and allows them to challenge their motor skills. When creating and arranging space in your classroom make sure it appeals to children so it will support the curriculum’s content goals. Having centers that are highly functional, aesthetically nice looking, and age appropriate will help promote children’s social and individual development. When arranging space in a classroom it’s also important to try and keep the center of the classroom fairly open so children have flexible space to circulate around the room. Children also need space to be able to work in small or large groups without there being any obstacles or interference in their activities. You should also keep items labeled, low to the ground, and have activities within a defined space.
