Classroom Communication Analysis

Communication is so very important in every aspect of our lives, whether it be work or play. I knew when entering into this class that I had areas to improve on and other areas that I did not know were an issue. I was hoping this class would give me the tools, to include the confidence, which I would need to become an even better speaker. Little did I know about this class is that I would find out how recording my speech would affect me the way it did. At the beginning of the class, myself and my other classmates faced the same challenge of getting rid of the “ums.” Trying to explain this phenomenon is like trying to explain why the sky is blue. People that do not give speeches regularly or are not professional speakers have a tendency to lose their train of thought or are unsure where they want to go with their words. In turn, their flow of words is interrupted with the word/sound “um.” I …show more content…
I created a PowerPoint presentation that I also used during the speech. I created an outline to help formulate the structure of my speech. Sometimes I have a hard time creating an introduction, but I figured I would just give me insight to my family life to begin everything. The body of my speech was an even balance of statistics, opinions, and persuasive wording to get my point across. The conclusion of my speech brought in the idea to draw sympathy from the audience, talk about my testimony, and the idea that the audience can help make a difference. As I said before, I would lose my flow of words because I wanted them to be perfect. The question and answer portion of my speech was a very interesting part of my speech due to the questions but also my last realization about the “ums.” This last part was completely unrehearsed and I did not prepare anything. I noticed that I had way last “ums,” because I was just speaking without overthinking the words I was trying to

Before I begin my outline I had to determine how I was going to present it. However with all the materials I collected, I was able to create my message. I had to prepare myself by coming up with an introduction, purpose statement, and main idea and listed the main idea throughout the body of my outline. In between the bodies I placed signposts to transition the information I was speaking. This will allow the audience to navigate where they are in the speech.…

Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

I had a clear thesis and stated it at the introduction. The introduction was excellent, which started with a story about the open-crotch pants, and it hooked my audiences successfully. The body paragraphs also were very good, which maintained enough details and a clear structure. The conclusion only had three sentences, which sounded a little weak. Also, I liked the visual aid that I made, which exhibited some cultural products directly that I mentioned in my speech; moreover, some pictures in the slideshow made people laughed, which is an important signal for me to know the success of this slideshow.…

Up during my speech specificly the last one, i felt super nervous, but looking back i appeared confident and great body gestures. The one thing that doesn 't surprise me is that in all my speeches i managed to have a great tone of voice and enthusiasm. Personally my strongest performance had to be the persuasive speech, after looking at it i noticed i looked the most confident, my content, my structure, and my transitions were spot on. My weekest performance however was my first speech, i looked so nervous, i had very little content, i was not into the speech, no transitions, and like i said i learned a lot from this…

When speaking in a public setting I use to have a problem speaking loud and clear, my hands would shake and I would become very overheated. After taking this class I have now learned how to cope with these problems. Nervousness is natural and understand how it can work in your benefit when speaking publicly, but the nervousness I would feel would be due to lack of preparation. I now understand how important it is to practice before speaking to an audience. When I presented my informative speech, I was given great feedback by my professor as well as my classmates; I even remember being told that my speech sounded very professional and that I “knew what I was talking about”.…

Communication shares ideas, thoughts and feeling with others. However, effective communication is contingent upon the context in which we live as well as the audience to whom we speak. For instance, communication has a huge role to play in the workplace as managers try to get the best out of employees. As managers soar to top management positions and roles change, many fail to upgrade communication skills. Personally, it is a place of isolation.…
