Choice making is one such intervention that has been shown to be effective for increasing task engagement and improving student performance (Cole & Levinson, 2002).

Doug should be taught strategies that further develop his writing abilities to support self-regulation and control of the writing process (García & de Caso, 2004). Using educational computer writing apps can provide the practice he needs to become a more confident writer. He can choose from an array of writing programs that will allow him to play games while he is learning the writing process. As his skills improve, it will increase his self-esteem and result in higher satisfaction composing written text (García & de Caso,
