In this article, a study was conducted on situation where the teacher designed a transition method for students to exhibit expectations in regards to behavior at the beginning of class and getting on-task as quickly as possible from the start. Both video modeling and visual cues were used to measure the behavior of several students who frequently had difficulty with on-task behaviors within the classroom. Video modeling and visual cues were both used and their effect on the behavior of the students was observed throughout the transition period from the beginning of class and ending upon the expected behavior which in this case, was students being in their seats and on-task. One issue is lack of time for preparation. With other activities going on and Keystones usually given the end of the year, students would have little time to prepare for the transition to testing days. They may be distracted with the end of school approaching and may not fully pay attention to the instructions or the cue cards. They may also become distracted by the confusion during the transition period. In the hallways are a lot of students from other grade levels from within the building that are moving around, attempting to find their classrooms, and even getting lost and going to the wrong area. When observing a special education classroom I am not only observing the class, but I am observing a glimpse into my future as a teacher. I was privileged enough to observe a multi-needs intermediate classroom with students who range from eight to ten year olds at Hope D. Wall School who have moderate to server learning disorders and physical handicaps. The purpose of the multi-need classroom is for the teacher to assess which path the student will take after the year is over. For an example some students might need more intensive guidance during their education, while other students attend life skills classes in order to prepare for life outside of school. While I was observing the class, I was fortunate enough to witness the students participate…

I have chosen this habit because I am getting married at the end of the summer and I need to lose weight in order to fit into my dress. I have gained about 50 pounds over the last four years of college due to my unhealthy eating habits. These unhealthy habits have been the result of my busy schedule and poor cooking skills. I do not think I knew how much of a problem this behavior was until I started recording how often it was occurring.…

Sarah’s behavior negatively affects the learning environment when she wanders around the classroom. If she is not at her desk with her learning materials then she is disrupting her learning. Her focus is not on the teacher or what is being taught and she could potentially miss important information because she is focused on walking around the classroom. Other students might be encouraged by Sarah’s actions to also get up and wander around the classroom, disrupting their learning too. The students who chose not to join the others and stay seated at their desks are still distracted because they are focusing their attention to the students walking around and not on the teacher.…

There was one student in the classroom that had extreme behavioral issues. This student was placed in a program the school has that gives the students behavior contracts that the teacher needs to fill out daily. This specific student was always being put on timeout and being called out for his actions in front of the entire class. I noticed that when this student would act out or disrupt the class, my mentor teacher would automatically assume the worst and give him a poor score on his behavior contract for the day. This would just upset the student even further and would make him act out more throughout the day.…

Importantly, I failed to mention time for either of the two transitions that I used. Because the kids come in one at a time, I was unsure of how to structure the time limit. However, since I did not explicitly state the expectations some students took longer to do the transitions than is expected. In the moment I attempted to correct my mistake with positive narration, but I think doing more of the work upfront will help set a more exact expectation for the…
