Have you ever experienced getting in trouble at school? It is 6th grade I am in the computer lab with a substitute teacher and my class. My friend and I are throwing an eraser back and forth and it hits the teacher. The substitute is furious with us, the next day the my teacher calls my mom. When I come home I find out that my phone has been shut off and I am forced to write an Apology letter for the previous day teacher. The lesson I learned from this experience is that if you choose to make a decision these decisions have consequences.
Also I learned that the consequences can carry over into other things as well. Just like when Jem cuts down all of Mrs. Dubose's flowers and then had to read to her for a month. The weekend after I got in

In Benjamin Hoff’s The Tao of Pooh, about 10 major Taoist teachings are covered through stories using the more familiar characters and concepts of Winnie the Pooh. Of these, the lessons on the understanding of inner nature, or cottlestone pie, and the story of the stonecutter, or that sort of bear, were those which I found most similar to my own goals. Both are focused on overcoming some sort of self-imposed obstacle, whether that be social anxiety or low self-esteem. Both of these also had an underlying more positive message than that offered by Buddhism or Confucianism. Where Buddhism tells me I must remove all desire to achieve happiness, and Confucianism says to turn towards my given role in life, Taoism offers the suggestion of just “being”.…

In the stories “The Lesson” by Toni Cade Bambara, and “The Struggle to be an All American Girl” by Elizabeth Wong, and the poem “Indian Boarding School: The Runaways” by Louise Erdrich, each of the writers focus on the positive and negative aspects of education. While part of the setting for Louise Erdrich’s poem and Elizabeth Wong’s story take place inside an actual school, the setting for Toni Cade Bambara’s story doesn’t take place inside a school; however, for all three stories, the characters in them are taught very important lessons. When I think about the three readings it reminds me that we have important lessons in our life that we have to learn from. Everyone has a lesson they have to learn in life no matter what it is…

An Overdue Apology from the Nation An official Apology to Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander had been postponed for 11 years after the inquiry into children removal report Bringing Them Home (1997) was released during the Howard Government (1996-2007). The report recommended for an apology as a first step to heal the wounds of victims because of human rights violations (Human Right and Equal Opportunity Commission 246). However, Prime Minister John Howard rejected to apologize for indigenous people on behalf of the nation and stressed that delivering a symbolic apology and letting Australians of this generation burden with the blame and a sense of national guilt would not facilitate successful reconciliation (Gunstone 80). Instead, he advocated…

During the start of class week four we started our discussion on the reading, The Apology, by Plato. We brought up some key points to pay attention for when reading, and also some vocab words to help us better understand the text. One of the words we mentioned was exordium, and how the goal of this action was to gain your attention. Focusing more on the reading we discussed how Socrates age should have played a “trump” card in his trial. In some cultures age is well respected, and elders of that culture are not question or held liable for certain actions.…

The Lessons of To Kill a Mockingbird What lessons should every child learn? Because what people learn as children is a huge factor in how they act when they grow up, those lessons are important. The three lessons that Scout learns throughout the novel To Kill a Mockingbird are to, always look at situations from others perspective, not to hurt innocence, and that because everyone has good and bad qualities you should look for them instead of just seeing one side. Starting with the most obvious, Scout’s father, Atticus, teaches Scout to always look at situations from other people’s perspective. Our first example of this is when Atticus first explains to Scout that Miss Caroline doesn't know everything that Scout does and that she should look…

After arriving to Wood Middle School as I would on any other day, I walked into the bustling commons area and noticed a herd of students scattered into their separate cliques. However, what immediately caught my eye was the number of teachers and administrators who clearly looked flustered and distressed. I soon left the commons area and headed towards the library to figure what exactly was going on. Sure enough, there was a cluster of teachers gazing at the library’s television in utter disbelief over what would soon become known as “The Stock Market Crash of 2008”. Even though I was only in the 6th grade, I still had enough competence to realize that this was not an ordinary day in the stock market.…
