Chapter 2. Classification of hotel enterprises in the Russian Federation.
The system of classification of hotel enterprises has its own features in different countries. In this chapter I am going to describe Russian classification system. Actually it is based on the most widely spread star classification system but it has always been changing. In recent years changes of system of rating of hotel establishments were connected with international sport events – Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games in 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
So what are the peculiarities of classification of hotel enterprises in the Russian Federation?

As general manager of the “Premier-Deal Hospitality”, specialist in the hospitality industry Marianna Koroleva says, the history of classification of hotel enterprises starts only in 2010. The first document which officially controlled exactly the system of definition of different categories of accommodation was the Order №35 created by the Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy on 25 January, 2010. The last redaction is the Order №1215 produced by the Ministry of Culture on July 11, 2014. The official title of this document is “On approval of the classification of objects of the tourism industry, including hotels and other accommodation facilities, ski slopes, beaches, carried out by accredited organizations”. It is interesting that a well-known website “Booking.com” gives an information about amount of stars the hotel has only after registration of the certificate about its category in the state classification system.
The most important aim of the publication of the legislation act on the subject of classification system is increase of the quality of hospitality services, loyalty of guest, improvement of the status of accommodation facilities.
As I have already told, the question of classification of hotel establishments is one of the most important problems of the hotel market in Russia. It refers as to proprietors of the hotel, as to the consumers, who choose the best conditions of accommodation and service level.
The classification system in Russia passed through a long way from the appropriation of some categories to hotel enterprises and rooms to the clear division of hotels according to the “star” classification.
Nowadays the state classification provides 6 stars classification of hotel enterprises and accommodation facilities: 5 stars, 4 stars, 3 stars, 2 stars, 1 star, and “no star”. So what categories of accommodation facilities are supposed according to this system of
