Every pregnancy comes with a roller coaster ride of good and bad changes. Once you start breastfeeding, your breasts get the entire spotlight as much of your attention is diverted to them.
As every woman’s body is unalike, so are the breasts. Certain pregnant women suffer with what we call the inverted nipples that pose their own challenges in breastfeeding. It is pretty easy- all you have to do is position your index and thumb fingers on the circumference of your aerola (the darker region around a nipple) and then squeeze it gently to test whether the nipple obtrudes outward or withdraws inward. In case the former happens, there is nothing for you to sweat about, i.e., you do not have inverted nipples. However, in case the latter happens, you have inverted nipples and need to exercise extra care while breastfeeding your little one. You can also analyse the wrinkles or lines around your nipple to test the same. Moreover, if the bulge on your nipple is missing, it goes without saying, that you have flat nipples. However, neither of these two conditions should make you fear about the production of breast milk as there is no link between the two.
If you have trouble analysing your nipples, you can ask your doctor to conduct a quick examination of your breasts and tell you the same.
