What does it take to be classified as a Classical Hollywood narrative? It takes four characteristics to be considered a Classical Hollywood narrative: a goal oriented character, highly motivated, a chain of cause and effect, and a resolution. Invisible style, also has a hand in Classical Hollywood narratives.
One of the four, aspects of a Classical Hollywood narrative is a goal oriented character. A goal oriented character is a character focused on reaching an achievement. Goal oriented characters can include the antagonist, protagonist or unimportant second character. An example of a goal oriented character is Alicia in Notorious (Alfred Hitchcock, 1946). Alicia is played by Ingrid Bergman and her goal is to gather intel on a group of Nazis,

Invisible style is a type of style that lets the scene flow without interruption from odd camera angles, changes in lighting or other elements. A good example of invisible style, is in the scene from Casablanca when Rick meets Ilsa for the first time since she abandoned him in Paris. We start with an establishing shot as Rick enters the Cafe and we see his look of dismay at the song Sam is playing. Then we see a shot of Rick walking toward Sam quickly, and the camera comes in for a close-up of Rick as he sees Ilsa and we receive a point-of-view shot when it flashes to a close up of Ilsa. The audience does not even notice the smooth movements of the camera because they are focused on the looks on Rick and Ilsa’s faces, but if the camera had done a 360 spin the audience would have noticed the camera movement itself as well as the looks on Rick and Ilsa’s …show more content…
The motivation of the film is completely thrown out early on in the film and we receive a new one. In the beginning of the movie we see that Marion is unhappy with her life, but she has no means of getting out then she is given a bundle of cash to take the bank and that introduces our main motivation which motivates her to go on the run. However, after she is killed the main motivation changes to her suspicious disappearance motivating various people to go look for her. The change in motivation also threw out, what the audience believes was the plot and that was unheard of at the
