DFQ #A. Explain in your own words what is classical conditioning and operant conditioning. In changing behavior which works better, praise or punishment?

Classical conditioning:

Classical Conditioning is the conditioning g in which the conditioned stimulus (like a sound) is paired with the unconditioned stimulus (like a visual a person or thing) until the conditioned stimulus alone is enough to elicit the response (like fear) Ivan Pavlov, the researcher that classical conditioning is most often associated with, conducted an experiment of classical conditioning. Pavlov used dogs in this study, and successfully elicited a response of drooling. He would ring a bell right before serving the dogs ' meat. The dogs salivate instinctively in response

I study done on children’s behaviors directed by Jay Belsky, the Director of the Institute for the Study of Children, Families, and Social issues and Professor of Psychology at Birkbeck University of London.

Belsky learned that while working with older children (ages 11/12 year old) that their was more performance improvement when the children had Positive “rewarding” feedback, than Negative “punishing” feedback Repeated running of the task showed that performance improved substantially more in the case of the younger children, telling them they did well, rather than negative. This shows that praise is more successful than punishment. It b is apparent that information which stipulates that you did something bad is more complicated than information stipulating that you did something good. Younger Children may simply have an easier time processing simpler it is easier to carry on doing the same thing as before, then to ask yourself what went wrong and how to change

DFQ#D. In the movie Silver Linings Playbook, Pat Solitano suffers from bipolar disorder and is released from a psychiatric hospital. After seeing the movie, do you think he was "well" enough to return living with his parents?

I think his mother checking him out against the doctor’s advice was not the best thing for him at that time. He was doing a lot better, even with not taking the medications, but he had not come completely to terms with the violence he inflicted on the man he caught having an affair with his wife. He was remorseful about the crime and earnest enough to rehabilitation and wanted to rebuild his life. I do believe a longer stay where he could have safely could have addresses the violence would have been best.

As students taking psychology at Hood College, we started to learn about the branches of conditioning. After learning about this we were then asked to observe 3 different commercials that were very peculiar because they seemed normal to the naked eye. But after analyzing it more closely we saw a few different types of conditions being present. The types of condition that were perceived were classical conditioning, operant conditioning and observational learning. To start off, classical conditioning is “A type of learning in which a neutral stimulus acquires the ability to evoke a response that was originally evoked by another stimulus.”…

My personal example of classical conditioning took place on a warm sunny summer day floating in a very relaxing pool. My boyfriend and I were floating around enjoying our summer break drinking Tequila out of oversized Yeti cups; mine was pink. It was all bubbles and butterflies at first, but when I got out of the pool and began to walk I soon discovered my cerebellum had been impaired. Minutes later I puked and passed out. The tequila was an unconditioned stimulus (UCS).…

It is often viewed as “just being sad” or “angry one minute and happy the next”, yet there is so much more to it. Depression makes people question their self worth, who he/she really is, and if life is even worth living in extreme cases. Bipolar disorder affects the person diagnosed with it by he/she not being able to control their emotions regardless if it is a public setting or not. Having a mom who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder and being diagnosed with depression myself, I feel like the writers of this movie really took the time to research people and cases with these disorders in order to get the most accurate depictions of the illnesses. People who have misconceptions of bipolar disorder or depression would benefit from watching this movie because this movie is just an example of what some people go through every day.…

In the end, it is suggested that love is a realistic cure to heal mental illness. This challenges medical science where medication is the only effective treatment. However, this movie intelligently displays the intricacy of disorders and the effect traumatic events can have on people. The movies focus is the story line, leading to inaccuracies in the portrayal of mental disorders. However, it is by far the best representation of mental illness which is mostly displayed by media as gun toting, knife wielding serial…

Title: Critical Analysis of a Psychological Concept Classical conditioning, a form of behaviorism, as defined in, Exploring Psychology in Modules by David G. Myers and C. Nathan Dewall, is “a type of learning in which one learns to link two or more stimuli and anticipate events” (248). In other words, classical conditioning is when two stimuli are paired repeatedly (first and second) and the response (leaving the classroom) that was once given by the second stimuli (being dismissed) is eventually given by only the first stimuli (school bell ringing). Nick, as a child, had a favorite fruit, kiwi. Nick always ate kiwis, one summer before his first year of middle school, he ate them almost every day. There was never any problem with this during…

This film is an impressive view of examination into that aspect of our life. Classical and Operant Conditioning Name Institutional Affiliation Classical and Operant Conditioning Classical and operant conditioning are two significant concepts essential to behavioural psychology. Classical conditioning was studied by Ivan Pavlov and it involves pairing a previously neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus. The unconditioned stimulus triggers a response naturally and automatically. In classical conditioning, learning refers to involuntary responses that result from experiences that occur before a response. Classical conditioning supports the idea that people develop responses to certain stimuli that are not naturally occurring (Lilienfeld, 2011, p. 204).…

S., (1989), operant conditioning is “learning in which a voluntary response is strengthened or weakened, depending on its favorable or unfavorable consequences.” In the late 19th century psychologists Edward Thorndike came up with the Law of Effect; it wasn’t until later in the early 1900’s a psychologist named B.F. Skinner who extended the idea of operant conditioning. Within this research Skinner used several principles while studying operant conditioning: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment, and negative punishment to name a few. Positive and negative reinforcement are neither good nor bad. For instance, positive reinforcement would be something like running a race and receiving a medal for the place you finished.…

Whether an individual is attempting to toilet train a toddler, improve exercise habits, or quit smoking cigarettes, the principles of operant conditioning may provide the key to successful behavior change. According to Skinner (1963), “The term operant was introduced to distinguish between reflexes and responses operating directly on the environment” (505). Some parents may have trouble training their infants to use the toilet; however, by using operant conditioning to change the behavior, they can easily accomplish their goal. Some young adults and even adults struggle to constantly exercise; but, if they use some of concepts defined within operant conditioning they may create a behavior that sticks with them for the rest of their lives. Finally,…

Classical conditioning is a process in which behaviour is modified. It was made famous by Ivan Pavlov and the experiments he carried out by using his dogs. Classical conditioning occurs when an unconditioned stimulus is paired with a conditioned stimulus. When both stimuli have been repeatedly paired, the organism which in Pavlov’s case was his dog shows a conditioned response to the conditioned stimulus.…
