Classical Conditioning, Insight Learning, And Latent Learning Process

The Learning Paper There are many different types of Learning processes that were discovered or observed by well known and respected Psychologists throughout the years. Today we will learn about four of them: Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning, Insight Learning, and Latent Learning. We can learn many fascinating things about the way animals and humans learn through their research. As we were talking about classical conditioning in class I realized that I have an example of classical conditioning in my own life. In my case, the neutral stimulus is the tone my iPhone makes when I receive a text message. At one point the tone meant nothing to me other than to notify me that I had received a text message. However, over the last few months I have been going through a pretty unpleasant separation from my husband. Most of our interaction during this time has been through text and virtually all of has been …show more content…
It’s not until you need the information that you realize you have what you need to solve the problem. My Grandmother was an avid knitter when I was a kid. I spent hours watching over her shoulder as she knitted blankets and sweaters. I didn’t realize then that I was learning, I just liked watching the way her hands moved as the metal needles scraped each other. When I was Twenty-eight years old a friend offered to teach me how to knit. We sat down one afternoon and within a couple of hours I was knitting with ease. Though I had never knitted before myself, knitting felt very familiar and I already recognized the patterns from watching my grandmother. It’s like I instinctively understood the process and bypassed that beginners stage in knitting where your tension is wonky and there are holes in your chain and dropped stitches. All those hours spent watching my grandmother helped the process come very naturally because I already had knowledge that I didn’t even know that I

In the video clip for The Office, the neutral stimulus that became the conditioned stimulus was the bell/alarm on the computer. An example of classical conditioning that I had experienced would be with my horses. When I first got my horses, I would whistle to them when I was bringing feed. At first they did not notice my whistle until they saw the bucket of feed, now though, every time I whistle their heads pop up. Now every time I whistle, my horses come looking for my bucket of feed, even when I do not have food, like when I go on a run down…

Behaviourism arose in 1913 by John B. Watson who tried to leave the introspectionist theory behind and put his focus to mainly looking at intelligence and tried to narrow psychology to experimental laboratory methods. B.F Skinner and Ivan Pavlov focused on their concepts of conditioning which we know are Operant and Classical. The main assumptions of the Behaviourist theory is the idea of ‘free will’ is not correct and our behaviours have to be detected by our surrounding world either through being taught these or being associated by them. Pavlov studied the automatic responses and found a stimulus that could be the answer to this. His most famous work was his study of the digestive process of dogs and he wanted to see if dogs would start to…

Title: Critical Analysis of a Psychological Concept Classical conditioning, a form of behaviorism, as defined in, Exploring Psychology in Modules by David G. Myers and C. Nathan Dewall, is “a type of learning in which one learns to link two or more stimuli and anticipate events” (248). In other words, classical conditioning is when two stimuli are paired repeatedly (first and second) and the response (leaving the classroom) that was once given by the second stimuli (being dismissed) is eventually given by only the first stimuli (school bell ringing). Nick, as a child, had a favorite fruit, kiwi. Nick always ate kiwis, one summer before his first year of middle school, he ate them almost every day. There was never any problem with this during…

The behavioural approach views people and animals as controlled by their environment and specifically their behaviour as a result of what they have learned in the environment. They believe in scientific methodology - experiments and that they only observation behaviour. This should be studied because this can be objectively measured. Behaviourist perspective explains how behaviour is learned using a concept of association, reinforcement and punishment. For example, a boy is unable to go to school or the park because he has a overwhelming fear of dogs.…

Classical conditioning is defined as a neutral stimulus that comes to bring about a response after it is paired with a stimulus that naturally brings about a response. Classical conditioning is demonstrated in the clip from the show “The Office”. Classical conditioning involves the following five factors - an unconditional response, an unconditional stimulus, a neutral stimulus, a conditional stimulus and a conditional response. An unconditional stimulus is a stimulus that brings about a response without having been learned and the unconditional response is a natural, innate response that is not associated with previous learning. The conditional stimulus is a neutral stimulus that has been paired with an unconditional stimulus to bring…

Learning is the involvement of acquiring new knowledge, skills, and responses to stimuli that results in a change of state. Learning can occur in a magnitude of different ways that leads to leading a habitual way of life, and the change in behavior as a result of experience. The science behind learning comes from understanding how the brain works and the different autonomic systems of the brain. For example, habits and learning occurs through electrical signals through the synapse occurring more frequently and strengthening the signals received by the dendrites of the nerve in such a way that the signals become second nature and are harder to change once established. However, knowing that in this way is how the brain works also invokes the…

Thorndike’s law of effect states that rewarded behaviors will be repeated and punished behaviors will decrease. Mrs. Jones can use the law of effect to get her students to behave well. If the students follow directions, she can offer them candy to get them to keep up the behavior. Also, she can punish her students for misbehaving by assigning them to a silent lunch. The candy will give them an incentive to behave properly while the silent lunches will get them to stop misbehaving.…

Classical and Operant Conditioning Name Institutional Affiliation Classical and Operant Conditioning Classical and operant conditioning are two significant concepts essential to behavioural psychology. Classical conditioning was studied by Ivan Pavlov and it involves pairing a previously neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus. The unconditioned stimulus triggers a response naturally and automatically. In classical conditioning, learning refers to involuntary responses that result from experiences that occur before a response. Classical conditioning supports the idea that people develop responses to certain stimuli that are not naturally occurring (Lilienfeld, 2011, p. 204).…

    1. There are many different ways humans and organisms learn. According to Feldman, R. S., (1989), learning is defined as, “a relatively permanent change in behavior that is brought about by experience.” The two types of learning principles we will be discussing are classical conditioning and operant conditioning. A Russian physiologist named Ivan Pavlov discovered classical conditioning.…

Classical conditioning is a process in which behaviour is modified. It was made famous by Ivan Pavlov and the experiments he carried out by using his dogs. Classical conditioning occurs when an unconditioned stimulus is paired with a conditioned stimulus. When both stimuli have been repeatedly paired, the organism which in Pavlov’s case was his dog shows a conditioned response to the conditioned stimulus.…
