Anxiety can overwhelm your performance, with the competing desire to be the best ballet dancer (Ringer 59). Classical ballet is a very demanding and disciplined sport that requires a lot of attention, but too much can hurt one’s social growth in the other activities outside of ballet (Baker). If one does not have an organized balance of ballet and the outside world, they will start showing a poor performance which is unacceptable in classical ballet (Ringer 78). Achieving this takes discipline and hard work and unfortunately, many ballerinas resort to anorexic behavior that is unhealthy and can be deadly (Ringer 127). As one grows, they can gain weight which will make classical ballet to attain. Ballets need for strict motivation can have gentlemen and ladies hurting their self over a weight issue that can be resolved by healthy habits (Ringer 201). Ballet dancers are more likely to have injuries compared to regular athletes and they are usually more severe, in one study. The training and performing can be compared to an Olympic gymnast. Anxiety and cognitive stress can result in physical strain, which was the most likely cause of injury from ballet dancers
