“We honor our past because it shapes our future,” this is one of the many quotes that Otterbein University holds dearly. Otterbein University holds this value greatly. Otterbein gives equality to all students, faculty, and others since 1847. Before any women’s rights and the abolishment of slavery, Otterbein University allowed people of color and women to receive a fair and equal education. Otterbein University is a mid-sized college located in Westerville, Ohio.…
In this essay I will be comparing to sides of an argument pertaining to the expenses of universal healthcare in the United States. One written by a man named Greg Olear, and the other by an anonymous author. The first batch of arguments are for a universal healthcare system written by Greg Olear. His first argument says that this is in the Constitution, stating it is the job of the president, the Congress, and the Supreme Court to, above all, uphold the charges set forth in the Constitution.…
To accurately depict the overarching qualities of Northwestern which I find most intriguing, it is easiest to provide a line from the university’s president, Morton Shapiro, on why the university stands out from their competitors. While emphasizing the school’s motivated approach to maximizing attention toward undergraduate students, Shapiro professed that the school’s “focus on undergrads without losing the identity as a great research institute” is a quality that sets Northwestern apart. This ideal, which is a crucial part of Northwestern’s identity, makes it all the more captivating. In the majority of colleges I have researched during my prodigious quest for the perfect university, I found that their “commitment to every student” was…
The guns up slogan has not been a big deal to most of the people around Lubbock. I have personally never met that thinks the slogan is offensive to them. This really has only been the complaint I have heard of by everythinglubbock.com. This has not changed the social status of Texas Tech at all. Social status is the amount f honor someone or something receives from the community as described in chapter 8.…
Technology is changing our lives and whether we like it or not we find ourselves having to go along with it. Writers, readers, composers, researchers and so on need to find a way to adapt to the change that comes with what we call “The Technology Era”. As always there will be two sides to any change; the one that will agree with it and open their arms to it, and a second that will forever talk about how great times used to be when things were done the only way they know to do things because they do not like change or cannot adapt to new. Nicholas Carr (2008) states “I’m not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I’m reading.…
Ethics are the moral duty and obligation that a company has plan to abide by. The authors seem to agree that most malfeasance isn’t caused by greed or opportunism. The general consensus of the authors is that malfeasance is caused by the negligence and over promising of the workers and those in charge. The negligence/over promising is found specifically on the part of the higher ups such as the CEO’s and the board of directors. They choose to overlook a problem and act as if everything is okay choosing instead to pay any lawsuits that they may encounter if it is cheaper than calling a recall.…

Laura E. Waltar Mrs. Hesse Cornerstone English 3 29 Nov. 2015 Just Go Don’t we all want to just go and explore? Commonly heard echoing through the halls of high school is the desire, the cry, to get out. Young people often just want to leave: to experience something new and unexpected, to find adventures and make memories, and to explore more of the world.…
Recently, there has been an argument in the State of Texas about the power of the State and the local governments. This argument had raised up after Gregg Abbott warned about the “Californization” of Texas, and in follow passing laws that limited the power of local governments on issues like fracking in their cities. These arguments are similar to those that are for the powers for the State versus Federal government. Hence, there are lots of arguments for and against the local control, and on the other hand, it is hypocritical for the state government to impose its will on the policies.…

An argument is an argument because their is an opposing side. An argument defined by Merriam-Webster is “a discussion in which people express different opinions about something.” This means that two people have two different views and are trying to convince the other side of their position. Also defined by Merriam-Webster is opinion which is “a belief, judgment, or way of thinking about something : what someone thinks about a particular thing.” For an argument to exist there must be logical propositions from either side.…
Being declared as a pre-nursing major, this counter argument is not something that should be even placed into the picture. A nurse is someone with a soft loving touch. They are the person who doesn’t care about getting all the credit of caring a patient or resident back to full health. Becoming a nurse is a dream for many people who are compassionate about healing, who could care less about the reward. A nurse’s reward is seeing a patient be able to walk again, or even being able to see Mrs. Jones use the bathroom continently without soiling her own clothes.…
Although having full day kindergarten may be too costly from people’s pockets who may not have children or a need for the full day kindergarten program, in the end it’s a positive investment for Ontario schooling to make. “In September 2010, the Ontario government began phasing in full-day kindergarten for four- and five-year-olds. In the first year, nearly 600 schools offered full-day kindergarten, with the number of schools increasing every year.” (Full day kindergarten” 2013) Full day kindergarten would be a positive thing because it starts kids off earlier while they are young, it opens up more jobs, helps families, has more time for learning and increased intelligence.…
I recall a few years ago, Wendy's’ slogan would state, “We have figured out that there are 256 ways to personalize a Wendy’s hamburger.” Now that I am in highschool and my class is currently learning how to calculate possibilities using combinations and permutations. And what we have discovered is that Wendy’s claim that there are 256 ways to personalize a burger is not only incorrect, but there are over 500 ways to personalize the burger, 512 to be precise. The answer had to be found utilizing probability, this was likely to either be combination or permutation.…
When the word argument is mentioned what comes to mind, a fight or altercation? Philosophy has a different definition of an argument. It has nothing to do with being violent or verbally abusive to the contender. An argument is a process of reasoning from one claim to another. An argument supports your ideas with justification from other ideas, principles, and observations to establish your conclusions and overcome objections.…
