Teacher mentioned that she always tries to avoid threatening the child about something that will be done if they don’t do what they are asked to. For example, if the entire class will have an end of the school year field trip and the teacher constantly tell the child that if they continue to misbehave they will not be going to the trip, this will only make the situation worse. The student will think that they will not be allowed to attend the trip because of misconduct, so the student will create anger against the teacher and will continue giving her a hard time throughout the rest of the year. According to Thomas Gordon avoiding threats will only initiate a never ending argument between the student and the teacher (Snowman, McCown, Biehler, 2009, p. 460). According to the interviewed teacher, there are some situations where the teacher has assumed incorrectly about having the response of why the child is misbehaving and this may lead into a misunderstanding between the student and the teacher. According to Metzger, teachers must take the time to ask students for an explanation of the situation. Even though the teacher might be exhausted of figuring out ways to discipline the student and nothing seems to work, Metzger says never give up and always try to get to the bottom of the reason why the child might be behaving a certain way.
