This exposure to responsibility, authority and ethics of the practice of medicine affected Clarke’s will to follow the rules and help people. “Your instincts will tell you to take care of everybody else first”. This is said by her mother prior to them going down to earth. This gives us a good idea of her character traits from very early on in the series. When the 100 prisoners first step foot on the land, Clarke immediately takes a leadership role in finding food, water and shelter for everyone and keeps them safe from the original inhabitants of the land (grounders). Her character is portrayed as always putting herself second to help others which shows that she is caring and selfless and the fact that she is always trying to heal people using the methods she had seen her mother use, it is seen that she is also a serious character and that she wants to protect her friends from any opposing threats, for example, the grounders. Before Clarke went through all the dramatic stages that caused her personality to change, the 99 people she went down with on the rocket viewed her as a goody two shoes or someone who always does the right thing. But after these life changing events, everyone’s view of Clarke changed and she became viewed as a leader that was not afraid to do what she needed to do for her safety and the safety of her family and friends. She was also viewed about mid way through the series as someone you do not want to mess with and someone who it is best to just agree with and move on. An example of this is when Clarke is talking to Lexa, a love interest and one of main characters, about how Lexa wants something, Clarke states, “Well, if you want the power of Wanheda, kill me. Take it. Otherwise, go float yourself, because I will never bow to you”. This shows that Clarke has quite a strong opinion and will not bow to whoever asks, she has her opinions and will follow through with them. Before all the changes, people who knew Clarke, used the fact that she was easy to manipulate to convince her into doing whatever they wanted. The change in Clarke’s personality to become less gullible and to think about what people were asking of her was a good thing in terms of the fact that she can no longer be manipulated like she was before but it is also a
