I believe that the character Clarke Griffin played by Eliza Taylor in the show The 100 displays the characteristics of what makes a great leader. The television series takes place a century in the future, years after planet Earth is destroyed and the remaining survivors residing in an international space station. The space station known as The Ark discovered that their resources are running out. In order to insure their future is still in sight, the leaders of The Ark sends 100 juvenile prisoners back to planet Earth to determine its habitability. As a leader, Clarke is willing to take risks and displays this by sending her best friend into enemy headquarters to be an inside man, in order to rescue their people. She also has to make life or death decisions for the hundred, such as choosing between killing hundreds of innocent people and in the process saving her people, or letting her people die, but saving innocent lives. Clarke took control of the situation and showed loyalty to the hundred choosing to keep her people safe while killing innocent people in the process. This caused great trauma on Clarke as she never imagined herself as a murderer, but even in this situation, she remains optimistic by telling herself if she didn’t kill those innocent lives, her people might be dead.
I chose Clarke as someone who is a great leader because she is inspirational. Clarke had to make really difficult decisions at a young age, and she also had the responsibility of protecting one hundred people, which can be quite stressful and nerve-wracking. Even though she faced difficult situations, Clarke managed to stay strong because she knew if she became weak, her people would be in danger and as a leader she could not let that happen.
