Clare’s explanation of what happened to her daughter is not consistent with her injuries. Clare claimed that she instructed her daughter Mary to “sit and wait” until she come back. If she heard Mary screaming, Mary should not have any sharp line on her lower back suggested that Mary’s injuries is intentional. I believe that Clare held Mary on a water until the person rang the bell. According to chapter 5, A glove or stocking burn results when a hand or foot is held in hot water (pg.116). It is similar to Mary since there is an indication of a waterline around her ankles of her feet that resembled a glove. Another indication that Clare’s account of what happened does not make sense that a child can’t jump up and in down in hot water without burning the bottom of her feet. …show more content…
I believe the if it is an accidental burn injury Mary’s burn should not be visible on her lower back instead the marking should be on her front body. Although, there were no splash marks on Mary the other injuries are sufficient enough to investigate Clare for child abuse. It is best for the CPS to request additional testing on Mary to ensure that she doesn’t have other existing injuries. CPS must work with another agencies and law enforcement to assist with the investigation in determining the abuse whether or not Mary should stay with her mother Clare. CPS and law enforcement should conduct interview with Mary’s primary doctor and gather information from her medical records. Additionally, survey the bath tub from where claimed that she left Mary alone to distinguish the difference between the accidental and intentional injuries she
