Clarence Crane: The Invention Of Life Saver

Improved Essays
In 1912 a one of a kind candy was made. This candies name is the “Life Saver” invented by Clarence Crane. This is a non-melting candy that was specially created for the summer time. In need of a larger profit he designed this candy because their chocolate kept melting and wouldn’t sell. Clarence could not ship the chocolate without it melting but knowing hard candies do not melt he came up with this great idea. The first of its kind was the Original Pep O Mint flavor, a big seller.
The name “Life Savers” has a reason behind its name. At the time of creating this candy, the inventor Clarence Crane was thinking about a life saver raft which sparked the idea of it being called “Life Savers”. Clarence was born in 1875, spent his youth in Garrettsville, Ohio and later died on July 6, 1931. This candy is manufactured by pressing mints into a circle then punching a hole in the center of them. Ever since the invention of this candy over 40 more flavors of Life Savers have been created.

A few reasons are because it does not cause tooth decay which many other candies do and the production of this candy keeps people employed. The reason behind this is because it is such a big company with so many people working for it so many people have jobs. If this company went out of buizness so many people would not have jobs, and this is NOT a good thing. Also, people are able to have something sweet such as the Life Saver and it will not spike their blood sugar. This is good because everyone wants to have something sweet but sometimes they can't because they have diabetes or like I said will make their blood sugar go too
