After she dropped out, Clara Barton was homeschooled after years of loneliness in public schools. Although she was fairly happy with her family, when she was eleven, her brother, David, fell of the barn roof after attempting to swing on it to appease a dare given by his friends. Since he was very athletic, he decided it wouldn’t be too difficult. While swinging, the rafter he was hanging on broke off, and David fell. The board struck his head, and he was knocked out.
