The movie I choose to compare to my experience was the “Clan of the Cave Bear”, this movie was about a girl Ayla, who lost her mother in an earthquake at a young age and was found by Iza a woman from the Clan who convinced the a group of cave people who were searching for a new cave to take in Ayla. Growing up Ayla was faced with a lot of tragic situations. However, she did not give up instead she allowed her difficulties to make her stronger. When Ayla first got around the cave people, everything was new to her and she had to learn to adapt to their lifestyle. Ayla was able to quickly adapt to their language and lifestyle, the cave people, then accepted her as one of their own. However, Ayla was limited to do certain things such as slinging the rock (hunting) because she was a girl. One day the cave people children were being attacked by an animal and Ayla was the only one who was able to save him because she slung the rock. The cavemen were angry with her and all the cave people had now turned their back on her because it was against their values. Ayla had to face the consequences and was sent away until the moon changes. Also, throughout the movie Ayla was raped several times as a form of punishment and had a baby by Broud (cave leader son). I believe during this class I was able to stood my ground and not go with the flow. Before coming to the class I was completely open-minded but very curious about what was going to happen because I had heard so many stories about people crying and learning so much about themselves during this class. Day one of the class was extremely draining, from the awkward silence, to Evan rambling about a bunch of nothing, Beth constantly talking about unnecessary things that had nothing to do with the group, and Megan being non-chalant about

The movie “ Triumph of the Nerds: Riding the Bear” may sounded funny when you first heard it, but in fact it is a documentary about how Microsoft rise as a major company that produces Operating System (OS) that is used worldwide until this day. The key of Microsoft success can be seen from the title “Riding the Bear”, where at that time Microsoft was still a small company that has a very smart business strategy. The business strategy that Microsoft employed is the utilization of a powerful company called the IBM, and in a way they rose to the top by using them. Another important part of the movie is the fact that this is the initial introduction to the world of Personal Computer (PC), whereas at that time the idea of a small size plastic boxes…

The objective of the BearCam experiment was to collect data and analyze to determine whether the grizzly bears prefer to fish independently or in groups at the McNeil River Falls. I collected the data within different times of the day between 7:34 A.M. – 7:02 P.M. My hypothesis is that bears prefer to fish independently rather than in groups. Methods: For the collection of data I used the random number generator to find the pictures of the bears and analyze whether they prefer to fish for their food independently or in groups.…

In many cultures the Bear represents strength, confidence, leadership, and standing against adversity and I believe that I have the personality traits that would make a great BEAR. Over the past years I have had to the honor to work with Macon Area of Habitat for Humanity and in the process I’ve worked with Mercer students on a Lynmore Blight Survey and a Canine census. I love to volunteer and go the extra mile to get a step closer to my dreams and goals. I’ve organized and ran food drives with an organization called “Feeding Macon”; in which I founded and partnered with Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. I enjoy reading but mostly science books like Silent Springs by Racheal Carson…

The Bear That Wasn’t by Frank Tashlin expresses the topic and main idea of a bear who struggles with loss of identity. In the beginning of the story, the bear is hibernating, oblivious to the construction of a factory above him. As he emerges from his slumber and walks outside, the foreman yells at the bear for not working. The bear simply replies ‘but I’m a bear.’ The foreman insisted that the bear is a silly man who needs a shave and wears a fur coat.…

I feel like most of my beliefs are extremely old fashioned especially when it comes to relationships, the way we dress, and technology. The majority of my beliefs about my relationships stem from being raised in the south and being a southern Baptist. I feel that a man should lead his family in all things, especially when it comes to religion. Also, because of my southern Baptist raising or spiritual beliefs, I am strongly against having sex before marriage. I feel like it is something that is special and should be saved once you have fully committed yourself to someone and have become one with them.…

The event that I attended on campus was a sexual education course presented by Farren Lobdell, the health educator and wellness coordinator on campus. I went to this event because my roommate needed to attend an event on campus to write a similar paper for her FYEP class as well. I wasn’t really sure how I felt about going to the course because it can be an awkward thing to talk about, but I didn’t want her to have to go alone. I had some idea of what we would be talking about, hence the name of the course but wasn’t exactly sure. I learned many things from the course and it was very educational.…

During this course, there were some prejudices that I have discovered that I did not think I had. One of the prejudices discovered was against Euro-Americans, believing that most of them had it easy because they were white. I learned that me believing in this, came from how I grew up. I am a multiracial man (African American and Latino), but I was raised by my Black father. So, for most of my life I was around my Black family and for the most part I had black and non-white friends.…

If you are asked to describe Africa or South America, what is the first word out of your mind? Is it “wild”, “developing”, “underdeveloped” and “poor”? If your answers are these stereotypes, I bet you do not know much about these places. In fact, before I took the feminism class, these words had been rooted in my mind so deeply that I can hardly ever find an aspect to appreciate these places. However, that class not only erased these stereotypes from my mind, but also had changed my understanding of “love perception”, which is a key element that encourages one to appreciate others.…

What have I not learned in this class? Can I say a kick to the mouth and a blow to the brain is all I can say about this class? New terminology was something I grasp that I did not about the terminology with its definitions. In the moodule discussions, I knew bits and facts about things but never in depth to all the subjects that were discussed in class. Now, that the course is coming to an end, I take a stand back and say wow, how ignorant was I not to know much about the LBGT community.…
