Claire In The Breakfast Club

“You see us as you want to see us… brain, athlete, basket-case, princess, and a criminal.” This is one of the first and last sentences of the movie The Breakfast Club directed by John Hughes, and it is the most powerful sentence of the entire movie. This is not a sentence about one of the students, it is a sentence about the principal. These words, written by a student during detention speaks volume about the entire dynamic of the school. Claire is the princess, but her appearance does not tell her whole story. Claire’s parents use her as a weapon against each other. She feels as though she is not loved by them, and that all they do is give her stuff.
As a student, Claire would be a good student, but also one that thrives for attention. I do not think she would draw negative attention to herself, but would be one to strive for positive attention. If I began to notice it, as a teacher I would pull her aside and we would discuss possible issues with her need for attention. Andrew and Claire are a lot alike on the outside. Andrew is the jock, the athlete, the popular guy. However, he does not have the ability to make up his own mind. Andrew has been told his entire life to be the best athlete, to win, win, win. That is exactly what he has done, he has done everything his father and coach told him to do. He was put in detention because he wanted to impress his father, to show his father that he can “have fun” at the expense of another student. Andrew tries to be the nice guy and stand up for others but he cannot stand up for

Jill is the main character in the the story “Pancakes” by Joan Baner, she is a round and dynamic character who tries to make everything perfect, all the time. This can be seen throughout the story by how she constantly cleans things “Dirty mirrors drove me crazy. I grabbed the bottle of Windex from the closet and cleaned off the gook until the mirror shined” The fact she couldn't let the mirror have a little smudge shows she need to keep things perfect. Another thing is how she can be critical of others if they are not doing things perfect, or up to her level. “Syrup, I told him, is our enemy, but like Allen Feinmen, Hugo was a male without vision.…
