In comparison to my cladogram, Figure 3-1 illustrates a more complex arrangement of the evolutionary history. You can physically see how the three domains interact and transfer genes horizontally. The cladogram and Figure 3-1 both illustrates horizontal gene transfer, the movement of genetic information in unicellular or multicellular organisms not through vertical transmission. The figure goes an extra step by breaking down the Domains into specific kingdoms. In contrast, the cladogram shows the evolutionary history of characteristics in each Domain, and how they relate to each other. The cladogram makes a broad generalization about the domain. For example, in the characteristic DNA histone for Archaea it states that it is “present in some

The more features two organisms share, the more likely they will be put in the same group. Taxonomists base their groupings on chemical, morphological, anatomical, physiological, and ecological characteristics (Sokal, 1986). Phylogenetic classification Grouping of organisms based on evolutionary relationships rather than mutual similarities or general resemblance. A century ago groupings were designed to support the Darwian principle of a common descendant.…

Thousands and thousands of women are seeking asylum in the United States, not because of war or discrimination, but they are seeking protection from a more personal danger: abuse from their husbands, boyfriends and male relatives. One woman recounted being raped, strangled and thrown against a wall by her husband, father of her twin boys. Two teenage girls discussed about being forced to become sex slaves for gang members. If the women do report the abuse to the police, they risk their homes being destroyed by gang members. “In my country, nobody pays attention to what women suffer,” Juliza, a victim of being sexual abuse by her husband said in a telephone interview with Pamela Constable who covers immigration issues and communities for the Washington Post .…

What I love most about Iron Mountain is you’re never too far away from the wilderness. I routinely have deer, rabbits, and other woodland critters in my yard, and it’s not uncommon to come across bears, coyotes, or even moose on the way to exams. Outside of work, there is no shortage of camping, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, hunting, and hiking opportunities. The Fumee Lake Natural Area, just outside of Iron Mountain, has miles of trails to enjoy scenic views, wild life and flowers.…

there is common ancestry among all organisms. There will always be many theories with corresponding evidence that all are very encouraging. The only way to get the entire picture is to keep challenging ideas to understand more and use that to our advantage for survival and to further medicine. Outside of the science realm, these ideas are important to comprehend because they tell a story related to the history of life and humankind. Genes are a representation of not only an organism’s future, but its entire ancestry and origins, including its connections to other life-forms.…

One trait that defers between humans and monkey, chimpanzees, and Bonobo's is the size and structure of the pelvic bone and sacrum size. When we look at a human pelvis the sacrum is large and wide in a circle/oval shape, the pelvic structure is thicker in bone size as well as the top of the pelvis has a bigger butterfly effect to it. The Bonobo and monkey pelvis on the other hand is much smaller in both the pelvis shape and sacrum shape. One of the biggest differences is how at the bottom of the Bonobo pelvis's bones smooth out making it longer whereas the human pelvis seems to arch up making more of that oval shape. This means that the chimps monkeys and bonobos have the ancestral trait because the shape of the pelvis is the same for each…

After a volcanic eruption, rock formations starts to form due to (because of) the quick cooling of the lava. The formation can come in flat rocks or in rock columns. Some columns can reach the height of 30 m. Most of the columns have at least five or six sides to each rock.…

Writing Assignment #1 Lasiognathus dinema There are a couple misconceptions you might have about evolution and natural selection. The strongest and most important organisms do not survive over the generations. Although evolution occurs due to fitness in an individual or individuals of a species, an organism cannot survive over generations. Fitness is achieved through variations in populations of species through genetic differentiation (Scottville “n.d.”). Since the life cycle of all living organisms is to be born, survive, mate, and die, it is impossible for an organism to live through several generations.…
