The Achumawi was a group of Indians located in the northeast corner of California. It was estimated in 1770 that there were 3,000 Achumawi but the estimate included the Atsugewi who happen to be great friends with Achumawi but are a different tribe entirely. Later on, in the 1910 Census, there is only about 1,000 Achumawi. Achumawi means River people. They were also called Pit River People because of their hunting habits of digging pits to trap deer.…
When they enter into the rainy season, sheets of bark are stripped from trees and wooden poles are used to support them. In the dry season all they need is shade, therefore leaning leafy branches are sufficient for their shelter. I believe we all make some sort of adaption according to season. A typical modern day adaptation for Americans would be to turn on the heater during winter and run the air conditioning during the summer. Another aspect that surprised me was that every Tiwi woman and man owns land, and as a result has a land owning name.…
The hominin evolution theory is the idea of Homo sapiens sapiens (AMHs) evolved from a lineage of hominins in Africa. The purpose of the project is to determine the genus and species of seven skulls discovered by Dr. Musoma in Africa, Europe and Asia, approximate the age of each skull, interpret the evolutionary pathway of each species, and provide evidence for and against the “Out of Africa” theory. The purpose of the project with be completed and evidence on the “Out of Africa” theory will be found. Based upon the information left with each of the seven skulls, the remains can be identified with the appropriate genus and species. For all seven skulls, Dr. T. C. Musoma left the cranial capacity, location and the artifacts, if any, found with…
The Ideology of William Cronon Between the Native Americans and the European Europeans, both parties view and interact with the New England landscape very differently. Cronon describes three major factors that make up wildlife; animals (which include fish and mammals), plants and trees. These three things are treated differently by both the Native Americans and the European Europeans. The Native Americans hunted animals often, took plants, and cut down trees in order to build shelter and make weapons. However, the native americans did not over-do it per say, they only took what they needed and used every bit of the things they obtained.…
#1: In all of the societies we have discussed thus far what are the similarities to their evolution and development? Are they all really that different? Use examples from each society we have talked about in class.…
Writing Assignment #1 Lasiognathus dinema There are a couple misconceptions you might have about evolution and natural selection. The strongest and most important organisms do not survive over the generations. Although evolution occurs due to fitness in an individual or individuals of a species, an organism cannot survive over generations. Fitness is achieved through variations in populations of species through genetic differentiation (Scottville “n.d.”). Since the life cycle of all living organisms is to be born, survive, mate, and die, it is impossible for an organism to live through several generations.…

A LONG LONG LONG time ago there were three tribes called the Haida, the Inuit, and the Sioux and they were all over canada . The Sioux, Inuit, and Haida were completely different tribes in many ways, I will go over some of them but not all of them. There are subjects like where they lived, what their houses looked like. What their houses looked like. For differences, their hunting weapons, their carvings and how their houses look different.…
Early Woodland Indians existed along the river valleys and coastal strip between 1000 B.C. to 0 A.D. They were the first to create the pottery movement; throughout the Southeast Americas. Giving them the ability to settle in one location, also the means to plant crops. Pottery was used for cooking, storage and serving foods. Advancement in their technology is a push forward for the building stationary housing, which materials are avaaible at the time of settlement.…
I agree with the theory of evolution because there are many evidence for it. The evidence includes fossil record, species distributions, vertebrate development process and fossil layers and so on. First, fossil is very important for understanding biological evolution. It can tell us how the living creature evolved.…
Each characteristics of species defines their lifestyle. From Australopithecus afarensis having canine tooth projected beyond the chewing surface and having canine diastema depicts the possibility of species having raw carnivorous food. Throughout time, species started exploring more food and started cooking leading to large molars to chew their food. The width of the dental arcade helped later species. The skull and vertebral attachment shows how species evolved to have a bipedal lifestyle.…
The structures that were developed in the Upper Paleolithic (Old Stone Age) and Neolithic time period were both similar in many ways, but also very different. During these time periods, artwork was stylized as men and women. These structures were simple and abstract. When comparing the two figurines, they represent men and women figures which resulted in legs being close together and with an hourglass body shape. Also they were fairly small in range and came from different time periods.…
In exploring early vernacular settlements, Catal Huyuk and Mohenjo-Daro, they offer examples of how prominent lifestyle changes occurring at the time impact these settlements due to technological advancements, adaptation to geography, and use of local resources for these successful cities. Although Catal Huyuk was built 5000 years before Mohenjo-Daro they still offer important comparisons of vernacular architecture showing similarities and differences of the cities growth and adaptation to the resources they had. Catal Huyuk, located in Southern Turkey, is a complex neolithic city which exemplifies the transition from hunter gather lifestyle to a settled agricultural lifestyle thru the cultivation of wheat and cattle breeding. Mohenjo-Daro…
The origin of the house form must be the interaction of sociocultural factors. In his book Rapoport reflects a part of the “interrelationship between a man and his environment which gives form to his daily habitat”. Instead of studying the “high style” buildings of various civilizations, he looks at and compares the characteristics and meaning of the folk, primitive, vernacular building and the modern ones. Rapoport links behaviour and form in the book and states that house form influences the behaviour.…
Green space is psychologically proven to restore an individual’s life and spirit, while diminishing irritation and dissatisfaction. In addition, the pleasant touch and the appealing views of greenery attempt to encourage and captivate individuals, considering the fact that house prices rise depending on the percentage of greenery in the site. The trees and vegetation that are planted near the buildings or streets reduce air pollution and runoffs, while increasing shade and evapotranspiration. The advantages of green space can ben incorporated into Leander through the planning of tree and vegetation, as an investment for a sustainable climate, status and…
