Cl2 Unit 2 Visual Analysis

The picture shows the graphic intensity of war. This is a picture of a man who has been gassed, presumably by Cl2. Cl2 was a gas used by both sides that irritated the eyes, lungs, and skin; it is a very nasty gas that is lethal and toxic. The man is lying on a stretcher, he has been shot, and it looks like he has been shot multiple times as spots of deep color are shown on his clothes. These dark spots look similar to an entry wound that blood is pouring out of. The bandage on his head is most likely due to the gas, or it is possible that he has a severe head injury and the bleeding is trying to be stopped. The man appears to be down in a foxhole or trench, the ground around him looks like it slightly slopes up and the rocks suggest that they …show more content…
This highlights that war never changes, it is always brutal, and violent. However, the fact that almost any graphic war picture shows that war is necessary. Even though it would be nice if no one fought it goes against human nature. Humans have fought over pretty much everything, from something as small as the stealing of a purse, to something as large as crimes against humanity such as mass genocide. While war is terrible, some good does come out of it. The picture shows the highlights of the poem, in the poem the man that did not get his mask on in time reaches out to Owen, who cannot help the man. The man that is lying on the stretcher symbolizes the man reaching out, but this time instead of Owen he is reaching out to God. The final hand in a man’s life. The man kneeling down next to the wounded man symbolizes Owen. It is likely that the man kneeling is saying goodbye and giving him his space to pray, because he knows he cannot save him even though he wishes he could. The man kneeling has dirty clothes and his hands are dirty, This symbolizes that no one comes back from war clean even if they try. Coming back ‘dirty’ does not mean that someone has done wrong, if you kneel next to a suffering man and watch as he prays to God and passes away, no one caring would walk away from that clean. They would likely be scarred, for life. Something simple that is …show more content…
The argument could be made that there is no way that it is sweet and right to die for one’s country when this much pain and suffering is involved. For some individuals that is true, and they indeed have a valid point. However, when people read that they become closed minded, because that argument indeed makes sense. There is however a different breed of people who would do anything for their country. These men and women are true patriots, who see things differently, they would suffer a thousand years so that others may live in peace. This is seen in the U.S. military, people take an oath to protect the United States Constitution and what it stands for. The U.S. constitution protects its people, the men and women who fight for it are the reason the people are safe. This has been visible throughout history very clearly, from the Roman empire and its soldiers, to Nazi soldiers, to the Three Percent who fought for the great United States. While both sides of the argument are valid it should be described to those who sign up the true dangers. While the truth turns some away, it lights a flame under others who are willing to do this. So in some ways the author truly highlights the “old lie”, but in other ways Owen fails to show that there are those people who see this an ‘old truth’ (Owen N). Who knows, maybe the man on the stretcher was praying that he did right by God and kept

War is always a way for men to get what they want or in most cases to settle a disagreement they have with each other. War is never a good thing because many innocent people die at war, they have their own lives and are dragged into fight for something they were originally not a part of. In some cases, however, men are more than glad to go into war and fight for anything, some treat it as an honorable thing to do, while others do it for their pride. The poems Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane and Camouflaging the Chimera by Yusef Komunyakaa are an example of the different points of view of two men who think differently about war.…

“War is Kind” by Stephen Crane is a poem extremely critical of war and questions if the war and the death and destructions that the results are truly worth it. Crane uses sarcasm and irony to move the reader to be critical towards war and to see the pain it the causes. The pain suffered by the soldier is obvious, but this poem shows the pain that family members of the soldiers suffer as well. The repeated chorus, “Do not weep/for war is kind,” ties the emotional experience and the actual experience of war together. Crane uses strong imagery to depict the men fighting and the women at home crying over them.…
