Civilized In The Kite Runner And Les Miserable?

In today’s society there is a lot of discussion on what behavior is considered civilized and what is considered barbaric. Consider the actions of our president, Donald Trump. The majority consider his behavior with women and his tactics for being elected extremely barberic. There is even a chance that he cheated during the election. Some consider his behavior normal, calling it “ locker room talk”, and therefore consider it civilized. You can also consider the behavior of ISIS and their treatment of non-muslims and even muslims that don’t worship the same way they do. In most people’s eyes that is extremely barberic and an awful thing to do but, they think they are carrying out Allah’s work. On page 63 Assef says “There is nothing sinful about teaching a lesson to a disrespectful donkey.” Of course he is talking about raping Hassan. You can see by the nonchalant way Assef views the rape of a young boy, that he clearly does not find what he is about to do barbaric. Even Wali and Kamal, his friends, find his actions to be quite barbaric. On the Jay Leno show Chris Rock said "I mean, c'mon, rape! It's rape! Rape's number two. It's murder, then rape! It's number two, like, like the United States, we wanna capture Osama bin Laden, and murder him. We're not gonna rape him.That would be barbaric!" This quote shows that we as a culture find rape, one of the most barbaric things that you can do to another person. On the other hand Assef clearly finds it to be ok with his rape of Hassan and the fact that he continued to rape children when he became an adult.
