What happens when the only thing holding an island together obliterates. What happens when reality fades away? The book Lord of the Flies tells us what happens when a group of 6 to 12 year old boys are stranded on an island after their plane crashes. While trying to make his way back to civilization Piggy finds a conch. The conch is used to call meetings and get the boy’s attention. In Lord of the Flies, the condition of the conch symbolizes civilization on the island.
At the beginning of the novel, the conch is white, clean, and the boys on the island are being civilized. The boys on the island are acting as if they were back home in England like civilized British boys. After Piggy and Ralph find the conch they use it to call the boys to the platform. In Lord of the Flies, the boys are described as shouting,”Let’s have a vote for chief!”(Golding 22). The conch is still white and pure and the boys are still remaining in contact with society. “The toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch” (Golding 22). The tribe is excited to vote just as much as they like the conch and it’s authority. The boys decide to create a tribe and Ralph is their chief. They decide to seek out the island to find out if the tribe is truly stranded.”Now go back, Piggy, and take names. That’s your job.

Humans listen to everything that is mentioned from the blow horn, the power of the conch doesn't usually mean it worked because when people listen to the blow horn it doesn't mean that they obey what is being…
