By the time of the civil war called the Dance of the Dragons, Prince Daemon had more experience in warfare than all their foes combined. During Rhaenyra's coronation on Dragonstone, Prince Daemon placed the crown of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen on the head of his wife, proclaiming her queen and claiming himself Protector of the Realm. Following the death of Rhaenyra's son Luke at the hands of Aemond Targaryen, Prince Daemon sent word to Dragonstone. "An eye for an eye, A son for a son. Lucerys will be revenged."
