Civil War Technological Advances

War was a very essential role to science in the 19th century, the industrial revolution had a great impact on war as well. The American civil war is often called the first true modernized war because of all the technologically advanced weapons used in this war. Weapons were now able to be mass produced and were much more accurate than previously used weapons. These weapons were also much more powerful and could shoot much farther. With the advances in weaponry happening so rapidly, many of the old war tactics used also had to be changed. With all these rapid advancements in weapons, transportation had also continued to advance with the railroad and steamship being built armies were able to be transferred much quicker and in larger numbers. While wired communications were already being used the upgrade to wireless communication was a huge step, the military could now communicate much easier to submarines because they were not in visual contact when underwater and on missions. This was the same with boats, once out to sea there was no real contact after visual contact was lost with the vessel. World War I was the first true example of all the new technologies being used at the same time, this war showed the true inventions of the industrial revolution and what had truly been created for massive warfare. This was also not the best timing for this war to be taking place because World War I, was almost inevitable, and no one really knew how to make it not happen. Many weapons were also more advanced and almost flawless compared to previous wars. This war also introduced many new types of weapons never before used much in any war
