Who was involved? Clara Barton: In March of 1865, President Abraham Lincoln appointed Barton, General Correspondent for the Friends of Paroled Prisoners. Her job was to respond to friends and relatives of missing soldiers by locating them among the prisons, parole rolls, or casualty lists at the camps in Annapolis, Maryland. To help in this big task, Barton published Lists of Missing Men that would be posted across the country. She always made sure that the graves with no names at Andersonville prison were identified and marked with the correct name.
Robert E. Lee : Robert E. Lee was the Civil War's finest general, he was the best at the organization of war. As the country's most experienced general in 1861, he said no President Lincoln's offer to become leader the Union Army, even though he did not like slavery. As leader of the Confederate Army, Lee came across to other people as a strong leader.

As America began to expand, new states had to decide if they would be slave states or free. The Compromise of 1850 was created by Henry Clay and a few others to deal with the amount of slave states and free states.
