The first cause to the war was from the State and their opposition to federal rights. Since the time of the Revolution, two different parties were created, one for the power to be greater in states rights and those arguing the federal government, that it needed to be more powerful than the other. Over 600,000 soldiers were killed and millions more were wounded. The Union (Northern States) ended up winning the war and left the South devastated. Could the civil war have been avoided? Well , if you look at the different routes our nation could have take, there could have been quite possibly different solution to all this. First, instead of making matters worse in rising tensions, they could have resorted in a meeting with elected officials for a plan of reunification. Primarily, they could discussed agreements and plans on weather or not slavery should be made and could have made laws that pertained to each state.
