Coming from a country destroyed by fourteen years of civil war, I understand the value of not being able to have access to quality healthcare, clean water and the impact of gender discrimination. Since coming to the U.S in 2007, I have further my education and developed skills that would help address many of the issues faced by low-income countries. Unequal access to education, low infrastructure, and corruption are few of the programs blocking development in low-income countries. A stronger policy is needed to hold people (politicians) accountable for their actions, increase funding to organizations that are providing services to develop or promote health and social well-being.
