Civil Unions Should Be Legalized In The United States

Civil unions can also be referred to terms such as; domestic partnerships, and registered partnerships, all of which hold a similar meaning. The establishment of Civil Unions legally grants both heterosexual and same-sex couples rights similar to marriage in the states of Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, and New Jersey where the legislation is lawful and will be recognized. Civil unions were first established in the country of Denmark in 1989 with the legislation of Denmark's National Registered Partnership Law that allowed same-sex couples to have rights that resemble the ones given to married heterosexual couples. This unprecedented law influenced many other nations to follow its course in the need for equality. The United States has not made a national law similar to Denmark's, but there are states within that recognize Civil Unions. The tenth amendment of the United States Constitution allows each state the power to enforce their own laws which they have created based on the requests made by the state’s citizens and legislatures. This law protects any state from having to follow any laws established by other states in which they do not agree with. These opinions are created because some people are against same-sex couples all together, however, civil unions are not only for same-sex couples but also for people who want an alternative to marriage. Majority of people who are opposed to civil unions are religious groups who believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
