Civil Rights On College Campuses

Improved Essays
I have grown as a global citizen by doing a project in my English class. It was my Civil Rights unit. I’m currently in a group focusing on rape culture and this topic means a lot to me. I am a female and I’m afraid of going to college and needing to worry about my daily outfit. There’s been many cases where girls are being raped or sexually assaulted on college campuses and their cases aren’t taken serious. Some schools don’t do anything so that their campus doesn’t look bad and won’t prevent new students from going to their school. And this worries me because I’m just a year away from going to college and my cousin is going to college in a few months. In addition, I’m afraid for our safety since the authorities are not willing to do anything …show more content…
It was a bit hard knowing what pictures to post and knowing who else to follow other than girls from our school. We are currently following Blac Chyna, Oprah, Amber Rose and other well-known women. We choose to follow them because they are known for things they have done that have been positively impacting our communities. Our goal is to change people’s views on girls that wear short clothing and to stop using hurtful words that would be considered an action of slut shaming. It won’t be easy to change someone’s perspective right away, but it’s not impossible it will only take some time. Lastly, most importantly, I realized if we care about something that is bothering us, we should do something about it and not wait until someone else does something. That’s how life works, you need to be independent. And do what’s best for you because no one will look after you. To show that what I’ve discussed is true I have pictures that can prove it. I’m going to use a picture of the Instagram account, pictures of people replying back after my group, I reposted a picture of them, and a picture of my group and I being all together and thanking our …show more content…
I chose Drama to help me be more comfortable being in front of an audience, to meet new people, and to be more social. I had a choice to either take Drama, Music, or Art. I wanted to challenge myself and try out something new. When I was growing up I took acting classes and was in multiple plays in my elementary school but for some reason after elementary I stopped going to acting classes and being in plays. I am glad I took this class because I know it will benefit me when I have presentations in the future especially when it’s time to go to college. Because I know that in college I’ll be doing many presentations. And also being part of crew will help when I have group project in college and now I know the communication skills in addition, this class gave me the opportunity to meet people. Overall this class helped me grow as an academic student by gaining a new perspective that in order to be academic it doesn’t always involve academic subject classes but also elective classes. It’s a combination of everything to be a good academic student. Before taking Drama I didn’t know the importance of having an elective class which helps you learn so much about yourself. I learned that I work well with a group as well as working on my own. After taking Drama I learned how to work with my group as a team in order to have the plays ready to go. Such as working with everyone with crew to find costumes online

In acting one I feel like I learned why more than what I intended. I think what most people and I would have thought is that acting is learning about how to play other people. But what we all can learn is that acting is way more then that. Acting is knowing that you can be anything in this whole entire universe even if this universe sees you as a nobody. I feel like everyday in this class I have a little bit more about myself.…

Rape on U.S. College Campuses: Causes, Effects, and What’s Being Done to Stop It Rape culture on college campuses is pervasive and blatant, but universities, as well as fellow students, politicians, law enforcement officials, media messages, and gender roles in a culture where men dominate and women are not taken as seriously, endorse the bias that sexual assault is the victim’s fault or “unavoidable” in a culture where X, instead of focusing on preventing rape by changing the behavior of perpetrators. As a college student, you are paying for the courses that you take and you expect for the professor to teach the material that you are required to learn by the end of the semester for your exams. In college, it seems to be the norm for professors to go off topic and go on a rant about current social issues or even about our current president. To prevent this from occurring David Horowitz, a conservative activist created the Academic Bill of Rights. The Academic Bill of Rights has a focus on eight broad principles that would put an end to students being a victim of hearing professor political or religious beliefs. Colleges and universities should officially recognize the Academic Bill of Rights.…
