Civil Rights Movement: The Black Lives Matter Movement

The Black Lives Matter Movement is a movement that is taking place right now which makes it even more so a movement worth mentioning for it is affecting and empowering individuals all over. It is important that you noted that this particular movement has gained followers and viewers as a direct result of technology, particularly social media. It is true that thanks to social media and technology such as a cell phone, people who are not actively involved in the movement can be aware of what is happening in real time. Additionally, like the Civil Rights Movement, the Black Lives Matter Movement uses nonviolent activism to bring about change. Sadly, the entire situation does not always remain nonviolent and innocent because African American individuals have been shot and killed by police officers just like in the past during the Civil Rights Movement. As shown in the Eyes on the Prize film, people were sprayed with fire hoses to stop demonstrations and these actions caught national attention since it was shown on the news and not all of the viewers agreed with how the situation was handled (PBS, 1994).
