The integration of these nine students was a huge win for the civil rights activist because it demonstrated that the government was finally not against the civil rights movement because they protect the nine students. The protection of the nine students clearly stated that black Americans were protected by the same laws and were starting to be viewed equally as whites under the eyes of the government. Because of the drastic measures taken to protect the nine students, it sent out a message to white america saying that these cruel acts against black Americans were no longer going to be as over looked. Although everyone thought it was wrong for using children no one truly expected for Eugene Connor to implement the same violent counter attacks on the nonviolent children’s crusade. Connor used the fire hoses on the children marching and set them flying across streets, although this was a tragedy, it attracted many more viewers and news to publish article and photographs on how wrong the whole circumstance is.
