Overall, throughout the course of Civics, I believe Civics should be a mandatory course. This is because the duration of civics class will be educating the students on democracy, government, rights, responsibility, and global citizenship which will help the students to be furthermore informed in the future as well as helping them make smarter choices in life.
Firstly, civics should be a mandatory course because the students will be learning about differentiate between the purposes of federal, municipal, and provincial. The Ontario Human Rights Code are very important to very human being because everyone is involved by it in their everyday lives. The Human Rights Code is when everyone has the rights and responsibilities to be treated equally without being discriminated. For example, If I applied to let say Food Basic and I went in for my interview, and they didn’t hire me because I was Asian. I would call the Human Rights Code because I learnt in class that if I was ever being discriminated or treated differently. I would know that I would have to call The Ontario Human Rights Code for help. Moreover, in The Charter of Rights, there are six different types of rights we would have to learn about which are language, equality, mobility, fundamental, legal and democratic. These are six very important rights everyone should know and obey because than people will be able to participate in democratic events without being discriminated. Lastly, the third right is The Youth Justice Criminal Act. For example if you were at the mall and the one of the police stopped you because he thinks you have stolen something from the store and demands you to give the police officer the bag. You wouldn’t have to hand the police officer the bag because he doesn’t have a warrant. Therefore, by knowing the three types of rights which are The Ontario Human RIghts Code, The Charter of RIghts and The Youth Justice Criminal Act it will allow you to protect yourself from ever being discriminated or treated
