Being honest means to chose not to lie, cheat, or steal. When we are honest, we build our personal character and let others around us know that we are always there for them to trust. It also means that no matter the circumstance, you don’t back down even if it’s hard or will be hard on the other person. At work, if you don’t tell the truth you could get fired. If you have a report do for your boss, and you don’t have your assignment done on time, you need to confront your boss even though there might be some consequences. If you don’t do it, and lie, later when they find out, there would be bigger consequences. Life will bring you to places where you might have an opinion that may be different than the people you are surrounded by. For example, your religion may be disagreed by many people but you should stand up and be honest about what you believe and not try to fit in. Many Americans do not abide by this civil value in many situations.
Sometimes we wonder whether telling the truth is the right thing to do all of the time. Well it should always be the right thing to do but a lot of Americans don’t think the same thing.
