Civic Proposal Presentation

My group members for the Civic Proposal Presentation were Alexandra Alaniz and Gabriela A. Martinez. I chose to work with them because I had worked with both girls in previous group class assignments. I think we worked very well together since we all expressed our opinions and were open for any change if someone had a different view towards any slide of the presentation. One issue we experienced was time, we all had different schedules that intervened with the times we could meet. In this Civic Proposal Presentation, I learned about group work experience, my own performance, and the feedback from my audience.
I prepared for this presentation by practicing on my speech, making flashcards, and trying to memorize the slides I was going to talk about. I contributed with the outline, sources, research, and decorating of the slides. We met two times outside of class to discuss and work on our presentation along with making a group chat in order to communicate with each other. I had rehearsed on my slides days before the presentation to avoid reading off slides and flashcards. All the group members contributed with the slides, research, and meeting outside of class to finish up the presentation.

Personally, I did get quite nervous during the presentation especially when I would completely forget certain things I was going to talk about. Although, I tried the best I could by just taking minimal glimpses of my flashcards and slides to recollect what I was talking about. The presentation video did change my perspective on my performance I got to examine what I did wrong such as my posture, reading off slides, and overall how I presented. Regardless, I still feel like I did a good job compared to previous presentations, but it made me realize that I need to greatly improve my communication

My video seemed to be clear enough, the audio was not as good as I had hoped. I am proud I finally got the laptop to work with me and stayed relatively calm during the ordeal. I tried to get the audience in front of me as much as I could, since I do not have a classroom available to me. Overall, I think I have improved some from my "Just Bag It" speech. 2.…

I was very happy when we came together as a group because I’ve never been in a group with any of these people before and I was excited to work with them. One of the strengths from our group’s presentation was that we all included lots of helpful information on PTSD on our respective slides, which will hopefully teach the class something about the mental illness. Another strength of our presentation was how it looked. Kristina and I spent lots of time going over the aesthetic of the entire presentation to make sure every slide matched (ex: using the same font and colours).…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

On November 9th, Erin and I co-facilitated a group discussion around trauma-informed practice as part of our Group Facilitation assignment as second-year nursing students. The process consisted of choosing a peer-reviewed article related to trauma-informed practice, then creating a Facilitation Plan around the article and relevant course theory, and finally facilitating a group discussion. As the next step towards the development of our group facilitation skills, we were assigned to write a critical reflection about the experience of facilitating a group discussion. Through this paper I provided a summary of our group facilitation experience, explored group dynamics, what I perceived as our strengths and challenges, what I have learned from…

“Every scientist has their own quirks.” I guess you could label me as a scientist since I was working in a lab under the chemistry professor who said that. I quickly thought of what my own quirk was, and then it dawned upon me; my quark is my speech disfluency. Throughout the latter half of my maturing years, I’ve had to come to an abrupt stop in the middle of my sentences because I physically couldn’t pronounce the start of the next word—vowels usually being the culprit, but sometimes even my own name got me.…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

However, I personally felt nervous as I was talking. This was reinforced by feedback I received which said “you seemed slightly nervous at first but then as confidence grew the teaching became increasingly better.” I felt this was due to a lack of preparation and could have easily been resolved by practice and repetition. Also, next time I will prepare some notes to prompt me and to ensure I do not forget to mention any important details the students may…

This is where I emailed the leader of my group my part of the work and they put it together with the rest of the presentation. On the group chat, we discussed about the strengths and weaknesses of the work and what we should improve on as a team. When crating the presentations verbal communication was very vital when we spoke face to face. I listened to each others ideas and thoughts as this is an important interpersonal communication skill. I also presented good body language, which shows that I was actively listening.…

At the start of the project, I created a Google Doc for the project outline and wrote the topic headers for it. In terms of outside research, I was the one who researched, found, and contacted Professor Susan Epstein from Hunter College to speak. This turned into a tedious process that resulted in about 20 emails being sent back and forth between her and I. Despite the difficulties I had in getting definitive answers from her, I was fortunately able to get her to come in to speak. Additionally, I was the one who created the Google Slides document, which the other members and I would populate with our slides. I also organized the Sunday meeting at Baruch and booked our study room in the library.…

The My story project, gave me the opportunity to share my life story with my fellow classmates and the professor. It allowed me to show a more vulnerable side of myself and to become more comfortable with the people in my Messina. The goal of this assignment was to present a 5-minute high impact story, so we created our own high impact version of a TED talk. While watching everyone else’s presentations, I was able to engage in other’s stories. For example; I learned that Cayla is a twin, Maddie comes from a military family, Ryan is in band with his family, several people live near each other in Massachusetts, etc.…

Introduction In this reflection, I will focus on some important topics such as, what I learned about individual and business taxation from this course, what was my experience with the group project and what were the challenges that I faced during both the group project and this course. I am also going to add some main overall points that I learned. Tax is generally an amount of money that is charged by a government on a product, income, or activity so that it can pay for public services. In addition, there are several very common types of taxes: • Income Tax (a percentage of individual or corporate earnings filed to the government) • Sales Tax (taxes charged on certain goods and services) • Property Tax (taxes charged on the value of land…
