It has often been observed that the younger generation has little to no interest in politics. In Chelsea Scherer’s article Civic engagement in a Digital Age the author discusses some tactics to involve the younger generation in becoming informed citizens. Today, June 18th, 2017, marks the last day of my first week of college at Paul Quinn College and I am proud to say, “I survived”. Committing to Paul Quinn was a really big decision for me because this school is a 17 hour drive away from my home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I was afraid that I might get homesick or that I would not have the support of my family because I would be so far away from home. Soon, after visiting the Dallas campus, I realized that Paul Quinn was the school for me. Project Citizen has been a wonderful experience. That has taught me many things that I can apply to my daily life that I may have never even thought of if I didn’t do Project Citizen. Even though I had a great time doing this project, I learned most people like to do less work and especially if someone is willing to pick up their slack for a better grade. When working in a team it gets a little hard to find motivation unless you all talk and make a clear plan of what people are doing for the group and when they need to have it done. There were times when our group lost focus really easy and we found ourselves scrambling with things that could have been done if we would have just sat down and defined a day that we wanted it done.…
Research Addendum The sex trafficking of children would be conducive to investigate using participatory action research. In order to further examine and understand dynamics in relation to children and their sexual exploitation naturalist inquiry would be appropriate. By being able to study in further detail the experiences of victims, traffickers, agency professionals that interact with victims, and community providers investigative data can be obtained that can aid in understanding dynamics surrounding victim trauma and the secretive environment that is bolstered, intricacies in relation to the asserted control by traffickers, and strengths ad barriers of current interventions. Freedom Summer, just a mere 10 weeks of the summer of 1964, changed the world, just by changing Mississippi. Reconstruction ended and blacks were no longer slaves, but they continued to be oppressed. Mississippi was the state that kept blacks as slaves without the title. Mississippi had the lowest crime rate, supposedly, but most likely had the most murders of blacks in cold blood. The Mississippi Summer Project dived head first into the volatile violence, subjecting their volunteers to a unique movement with dangers that scared and motivated them to make their movement as successful as they could.…
My interviewee was a student that I met in a course that speaks about social justice and its different ways it can take place in society. Everyone in this class is always engaged, alert and participating and I figured that if I asked a student to be interviewed, they would be familiar or have developed an opinion about social justice and activism. The student I asked, agreed to meet with me and be interviewed, however his schedule was constantly changing through out the week, and our time arrangement was not set in stone.
