A theme in American history reveals the fascination America has with Black deaths as entertainment. The most popular TV shows and movies easily dictate the ways in which people view Black lives. Countless entertainment programs promote Americans to believe the lives of African-Americans are accurately reflected on television. The constant barrages of negative stereotypes involving Black people in the entertainment industry desensitize audiences from understanding the values of African American lives.

The series, Empire, displays multiple scenes of Blacks killing each other or seeking to cause the demise of another Black character for selfish gain. The three brothers on the show begin to turn against each other hoping gain dominance. Their father, in addition, kills his best friend and multiple others in order to maintain power. The physical deaths presented on TV desensitize us to the death of Blacks through violence. It would not be surprising to hear an Americans conclude Blacks should be used to violence due to the many fictional portrayals and actual witnessed occurrences publicized persistently through media. Unfortunately, the advertised deaths of Blacks create far more tragic situation apart from the false reflection of African Americans. Black lives grow into the source of amusement and conjecture; hence the individual lives are valueless. Dalitson Ruwe explained how even African Americans are entertained with Black Death as they glorify their own only after the death has occurred (Ruwe 2015). African Americans lack awareness of the lack of concern for the undermining value of black lives. The glorification of Black Death like a recreational sport entertains the world. Granting TV shows comparative to Empire popularity create a paradox for Black lives. The status of the show demonstrates success, however, such success must be paid at a high price.
