Each person writes a different way, and each of us has different strengths and weaknesses. As the semester draws to a close and as classes come to an end, it’s time to reflect on what those strengths and weaknesses are. My strengths and weaknesses, as well as other factors soon to be mentioned, are the reason I am the writer that I am. Throughout this semester, many aspects of my writing have changed. However, my approach to writing papers has stayed fairly consistent. I still start by procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. When that day comes, I begin my writing process. Additionally, I’d like to strengthen my word choice and sentence fluency. I think one of the most helpful ways of tackling those areas is to read your writing aloud. If at all possible, it’s nice to have someone else read your writing out loud to you too. Methods like these help you to catch awkward phrases and anything else that sounds different than you want it to sound.
I definitely think the things i've learned in this class will benefit me. In fact, I already know they have. In my World Civ class, we got points taken off every time we wrote something wrong. That includes comma splices! I feel like, in that aspect, this class has given me an advantage in my college class. I think it's going to continue to help me even more when I’m actually in college too. Some of the most beneficial things I've learned about were comma splices, “show, don’t tell”, and about establishing authority in research pieces.
I feel like if there's anything I should have done different, it would be to stop procrastinating as much. I still got good grades even when I put off papers until the last minute (pressure seems to motivate me), but I think I could've made a lot of my writing pieces even better if I had put more time and effort into them.
