The Reflection Of The Arcata City Council Meeting

Arcata City Council Meeting On October 15th, at 6:00 p.m. Arcata held it's biweekly city council meeting. It looks like every other Wednesday the city council get together with other member of the city as well as members of the public to discuss different topics relevant at that particular time. I was unfortunately unable to attend due to work, but they do have videos of all their council meetings available to the public online. So, I was able to watch the meeting from my home at a more convenient time. The agenda for these meetings are all set up in the same way. First, there is a flag salute and then a roll call. After that, they go on to the ceremonial matters. For the October 15th meeting, there were only two ceremonial matters. The first …show more content…
Once again, this was read by a city council member and then Shane accepted the certificate and gift and gave a thank you speech. It sounds like while Shane was a member of city council he was able to accomplish some great tasks for the city, including one project having to do with biking (which I learned seems to be a big deal to the city and its council members). From what I could tell, he was a well liked member of the council but resigned in order to pursue a different government career. He was given a gist that looked like some sort of cup and apparently had the Arcata potato on it. Although, I'm not quite sure what the Arcata potato is or its …show more content…
For this meeting, there was only one committee giving report. This committee was the Transportation Safety Committee and they were giving an annual report. The report consisted mostly of letting everyone know what the committee has been up to the last year and what projects they have done and are still doing. Some of the topics included Amtrak, 50/50 mode share, and making Arcata a certified walk friendly city. The 50/50 mode share is something that they are continuing to work on. The main struggle right now seems to be how to measure who is using what form of transportation with the limited budget they have. I also learned that not only are they applying to be a certified walk friendly city, but Arcata is already certified bike friendly! Council members as well as anyone else present at the meeting was allowed to ask questions, although their weren't many. After the report was over, the meeting moved on to what was called "early oral communications." This is a fifteen minute time period in which people can address the council on matters not on the agenda. However, for this particular meeting, there were no early oral communications to be

Q1 The main inquiry in Baker v. Carr was in the case of redistricting was a legitimate issue the courts could deliver proactively to revise manhandle or a political issue. The state contended that it was a political issue, so the courts had no purview. The case demonstrated a standout amongst the most debilitating in the Supreme Court's history, with the choice held over for re-contention on the grounds that the court couldn't achieve a lion's share choice. Equity Charles Evans Whittaker was so resentful about the case, he at long last recused himself from the choice, and the worry over the choice may have added to his initial retirement from the Court.…

Men and women, some appeared jovial and others exhibited a flat effect.…
