A city council meeting is a substantial way to express considerably of Amarillo in particular’s prosperousness. The purpose of a City Council meeting is to provide a forum for members, staff and citizens to discuss various subjects related to City operations, projects, and planning. I believe it is a great system because it administrates the city with representatives elected by those who live there and more than likely participate in these meetings. Although technically Texas law does not provide for an opportunity for citizens to participate in local government meetings, the city of Amarillo takes all opinions including from its citizens to participate in City Council meetings.

This is very beneficial in developing the concrete plans to put policy decisions into practice. They also often have advanced degrees in management, engineering, finance, and other technical areas, a knowledge base they can bring to bear in devising solutions to local problems.
The whole council process to me is really clever and beneficial to the city. The staff members are common elected people with good education who can stay for long periods of time to ensure the city’s future is secure. With this the citizens can find some power in the meetings because without their opinion certain officials would or wouldn’t be there. As goes for some ideas and evaluations for the city.

Most decisions are made by councilors at formal council meetings, although certain decisions can be delegated to other areas which both options were present in the particular meeting I attended. Councilors are elected to make decisions on behalf of their communities. As such, they have a responsibility to represent the interests of their constituents, as well as those of the entire community.
