PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND ANTICONVULSANT ACTIVITY OF CITRUS GRANDIS LEAF EXTRACT IN EXPERIMENTAL MICE

ABSTRACT In the present study , antiepileptic effect of the methanolic extract of the leaves of Citrus Grandis was evaluated by hand limb extension induced by chemically induced seizures in mice models.Two different doses were selected .The methanol extract of the leaves of Citrus Grandis (150, 200 mg/kg, i.p.) was studied for its antiepileptic effect on caffeine induced seizures in mice. After the extraction process is completed the solvent is collected and it is set for distillation.
The product is collected after the distillation process is completed and it is washed for several times and kept for air drying. The product is stored in air tight container at 25-35celsius.[38]
Experimental animals
Swiss mice of either sex, 8-10 weeks old, weighing about 25-30 g were used in Experiments. Animals were housed in polypropylene cages maintained under Standard condition (12 hours light / dark cycle; 25 ± 3 0C, 45-65% humidity) and had Free access to standard rat feed (Hindustan Liver Ltd., India) and water ad libitum All the animals were acclimatized to laboratory condition for a week before commencement of experiment. All experimental protocols were reviewed and accepted by the Institutional Animal Ethical Committee (IAEC) prior to the initia0tion of the experiment[39].
Screening of Anticonvulsant activity
• Fresh drug solutions were prepared on each day of the experiments. Drugs were administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) to the animal.

The mouse was considered protected if the drug 10 abolished the tonic hind limb extension . The mean duration of various parameters of different groups areshown in tables 1-4.
