In 1791, ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution were created. The second amendment states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Brooks, 2017). This amendment states that all citizens have the right to bear arms. It was originally created to give citizens the opportunity to fight back against an autocratic federal government. Within the past two decades, there have been increasingly more massacres and school shootings. This year, on February 14, 2018, the deadliest school shooting occurred at Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida. In this massacre, seventeen people (14 students and 3 staff members) were fatally shot, and seventeen others were wounded (Sanchez, 2018). In class, we talked about the potential people or groups that may be responsible for social issues. The list includes: society, consumers, producers, government, or global efforts. Some argue the issue of gun control is the governments fault for not implementing stricter gun laws to ensure greater difficulty in obtaining a gun. Some blame mental illness, or violence seen in televisions or in video games (Silliman, 2018). I personally think, it is a combination of mental illness and the government. Citizens who have been responsible for massacres or school shooting typically have mental illnesses; and if there were stricter gun control laws, it would be more difficult for those with mental illnesses to obtain a fire
