Most recently, to show how highly it is regarded, the AFI ranked it only behind Citizen Kane on one of their best movie lists. Over a few centuries, post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) has been known by plenty of names: at first, it stood as “irritable heart” during the American Civil War; later during the First World War, the symptoms were called “shell shock” or “hysteria”. When the Second World War and the War in Korea occurred, the symptoms were labeled as “war neurosis”, “battle fatigue”, and “exhaustion.” Lastly, during the War in Vietnam, “Post Vietnam Syndrome” remained as the last occurrence of names given before PTSD was officially branded and categorized as a war mental illness. (Coleman 19) Although Hollywood has created numerous of films regarding WWII, Spielberg’s film, Saving Private Ryan, a war film praised for the realism of violence and battles—most…
I agree that the "Rosebud" Sled was a very intriguing element of the film Citizen Kane. Throughout the entire movie I had no idea that his last words could be about something so simple, but by the end of the movie I could not see his final words being anything else. It's incredible to think that through Charles Foster Kane's whole life he was chasing such a simple concept of happiness and could not grasp it, no matter how hard he tried. I found it intersting that the during the movie the lead reporter never thinks to trace back to his early childhood, but only thought to look for things that Kane interacted with after he had all of his money.…
1. Over a hundred people were involved in the production of this film. The entire cast and crew are not given equal credit in most films. The majority of the camera crew and other production workers are not given as much credit for their work as the actors and director/producers, even though they play a huge role in the development and production of the movie. The making of a huge blockbuster like ‘The Departed’ involves the use of an immense crew.…
Citizen Kane is one of the main movies as to its filmmaking impacts. Director Orson Welles and Cinematographer Gregg Toland were massively inventive in use of camera shots, angles, and lights. Moreover, they utilize the narrative and Dramatic elements in a creative way, describing a story of one individual in many ways. All in all, Citizen Kane opened interesting platform in the filmmaking and techniques. Charles Foster Kane was a man who had everything in his life.…
Expressionism is defined as using a art form or drama as a means for depicting subjective emotions and responses. Forms of expressionism often connect to the artists own life which could be said about Orson Welles’s 1941 film Citizen Kane. It is widely thought that Citizen Kane is an unauthorized biography about the life of William Randolph Hearst, a well known newspaper tycoon from the time the film was made. The film is perhaps a dramatized account of a man who controls the people through controlling the media, giving him the feeling of being a God. This is heavily supported by the imagery in the film such as the huge campaign posters of Charles Foster Kane’s face looking out to the crowd of supporters.…
The movie 42 is a biographical sports film about the rise of Jackie Robinson into Major League Baseball in 1947. The movie focuses in on Jackie’s journey in baseball by describing his experiences through playing in the Kansas City Monarchs, then the Montreal Royals, and ultimately the Brooklyn Dodgers. The movie thoroughly shows Jackie’s battle with racism throughout his baseball career, as he was the first African-American player to break the baseball color barrier. Per the movie, Jackie Robinson went through a lot of hate and agony from baseball players and fans, specifically white people. 42 did a great job of describing one, Jackie’s journey in baseball, and two, the racial segregation in America at that time.…
INTRODUCTION The act of crime is brought about by breaking the law enforced by the government thus, there is violation of rights entitled to individuals and disruptions of well-being (Brown et al. 2013: 20). The duty of a law enforcement officer is to eradicate crime in a society, it’s to promote peace and ensure safety within a society. Additionally, law enforcement officers are normally seen as law abiding citizens who are tasked with implementing the laws at all jurisdictional levels (Otu 2006: 18). At the same time, some law enforcement officers see themselves as crime fighters, while others consider themselves helpers of those who cannot help themselves.…
Orson Welles’ film Citizen Kane (1941) is significant in the movie world because of the innovations it made not only in technique, but also in how films were conceptualized. It planted seeds for the film noir movement that was to come, and popularized lighting, angling, and transitioning methods filmmakers still use today. But Welles’ greatest legacy in Citizen Kane lies in his ability, through casting, plot, and cinematographic choices, to paint a man whose life is corrupted and ultimately destroyed by an unwavering lust for fulfillment of the “American Dream” through fame, fortune, and power. One technique that Citizen Kane has come to be known for is the use of deep focus shots. These shots required a careful balance of lighting and composition,…

I have grown to tolerate black and white film, however I am still not fond of them. I also though the film’s mood was too depressing and slow. The plot was not too interesting to follow along with. However, I will not deny the flawless acting and seamless camera actions. It was beautifully produced and directed.…
Orson Welles’ first film, “Citizen Kane,” richly realizes the full potential of excellent craftsmanship. Every perceivable element of cinema is expertly utilized to drive the story, themes and tones that “Citizen Kane” present. This is especially apparent in the scene that follows Susan leaving Kane. This scene’s manipulation of mise-en-scène, editing and sound bring together all of Welles’ ideas and drive them beyond the finish line. Mise en scène is what appears in the frame, what the viewer sees.…
