CISM seems like a good thing. any time a person has the ability to process something traumatic in their life, I see as an asset. Prichard (2013) leads a group of first responders through this process and then writes about it. He states that one of the benefits is the normalization that happens during this process. Sapolsky (2004) ask the reader to consider looking beyond risk factor such as a smoker or how much a person drinks. He asks that where and how the person grow up also be factored. Did the person grow up poor? Did the person have to worry about their next meal because they didn't have enough money? Does the person living next to power plant because it is the only rent they can afford have to do with their health concerns? While I was writing these questions, the thought occurred that this is why there are social workers in hospitals. while this would help, the whole system needs to change. In my life, and job I have seen this played out when it comes to paying bills. I am currently trying to help someone move from the place they live in to a place that doesn't have mold in the walls nor cigarette smoke from other residents. The consumer doesn't have the resources to move. the situation is causing her to stress overload. it is hard to say if it is connected but in the time I have been working with her, her coughing has gotten worse, she has been to the doctor more than I have been in the last three years. I am willing to bet that if she wasn't poor, she would be in better
