The Cirque du Soleil is an energetic, entertaining and exciting entertainment company that was founded in Quebec, Canada. !!!!!!!From stilts to juggling to fire breathing, the cirque has inspired imagination among its many audiences since the early 1980’s. Originally, in 1984, Cirque du Soleil had a labour force of 73 people but today, employs 5,000 employees worldwide. !!!! The growth of the company is not only seen is the increasing labour force but in the business’ profits; the company has not received funding or any grants from either the private or public sectors since 1992. Today, the ICA’s National President is Liz Wall. The ICA has over 10,000 members and it aims to bring women together through common interests such as cooking, travelling, socialising and sewing, threading embroidery or creating other such crafts. In historic times it focused more on improving the lifestyle and status of women, particularly those in rural regions.Each ICA group is referred to as a ‘guild’ and there are over 500 of these guilds in Ireland. The geographical reach of the ICA is not only nationally but also internationally as it is affiliated with the Associated Countrywomen of the World which contains 70 countries. The organisation supports many charities such as Pieta House and Oxfam Ireland. It provides educational, domestic and recreational courses to women. Most of these take place in the local ICA meeting spot, however, ‘An Grianan’ in Co. Louth, is where most courses take place. !!! In recent years, RTE has televised a show called ‘ ICA Bootcamp’ whereby young, modern women take on the challenge of carrying out traditional female roles e.g. cooking, milking cattle, sewing etc., all in a bid to win the competition against other women.
