Cirque De La Symphonie

The kind of music that we have been going over these past five weeks or so in this class is not new to me, but at the same time I am not totally comfortable with the different styles and how each are unique. When deciding what concert to go to o I could write this report I was unsure which one to pick. I was unsure of what each concert had to offer me with what pieces of music that would be played. After much debate and deliberation I came to the determination that the best concert for me to attend would be Cirque De La Symphonie Goes Broadway! Presented by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. This performance was conducted by Maestro Jack Everly and would include many famous Broadway pieces with vocals by Ben Crawford, Charlie Metzger, and Christina Decicco with the Cirque dancers bringing the music to life. The performance …show more content…
This is one of the best songs The Who have ever written and the way the orchestra performed it was excellent. The Orchestra was also spot on with the rhythm of the piece as well. I thought Ben Crawford did a fantastic job with the vocals as well. However the one thing I liked the most about this particular piece was that the cirque dancer performing had a giant cube with lights on it and he was waving it around and the way it was flying through the air around him just looked so spectacular. Another piece that I really enjoyed was Who I’d Be from Shrek the Musical written by David Lindsay-Abaire. The thing I really liked about this was the fact that Ben Crawford actually played Shrek in the Musical on Broadway and he was there to perform the piece for us. I thought the orchestra did a great job on matching the rhythm and volume of Ben throughout the piece. Both Ben and the orchestra’s harmony was also very on point and they matched each other’s harmony throughout the duration of the

I loved the last piece in the third movement because it was played very well and it is an iconic piece. I had different emotions for the individual pieces were I felt at ease, delighted, and anxious with a dynamic feeling when the pieces go fast paced. This time I remembered the fast parts since I expected than the other first concert. The most memorable was Moonlight, presto movement. For the chamber groups they projected a playful vibe between each other enjoying when it alternates to one another.…

As stated before the concert was not what I was expecting. I enjoyed it more than I believed I would, it certainly isn’t my new favorite type of music, but understanding aspects of it gave me a greater appreciation for the music and the musicians. Things such as a recognizable basso ostinato set by the base player were a familiar starting point. When the soloists needed an accompaniment the bassist varied the continuous rhythm to compliment what the soloist was playing, otherwise, the beat was…

Nothing too complex, but also some of the songs had more difficult and changing rhythms. I was happy with the variety in the concert. The whole concert had some pretty strong melodies. There was quite a bit of solos. The director even mentioned that these pieces allowed the students more opportunities for solo opportunities and create their own melodies.…

Through the combination of this documentary, “The Great White Way” and “Showtime, I was exposed to information that made me question my definition of a musical. I was also forced to explore how the musical developed from its origins into what we know as the modern musical of today. My first discovery was that the musical is a distinctly “Americanized” art form and as such it is became a key part of American cultural movements that would follow the Revolutionary war. After gaining our independence as a country we moved to reject a great deal of our European culture and were then forced to create a new distinct American culture with its own art forms and practices. In order to determine how this process occurred specifically within live performance…

The name of the musical that I choose to do is Fiddler On the Roof. The author of this musical is Joseph Stein’s. The musical is based on Sholom Aleichem’s Tevye and his Daughters, where Jews and Russians live in delicate balance. Fiddler on the Roof is the beloved story of the small, tradition-steeped town of Anatevka, Russia. The main idea of the musical is how the time that the musical took place was a time where traditions were honored by the people of Anatevka and are both embraced and challenged by Tevye and his diverse community.…

It is great that we are showing music through social media to help people broaden their look on music. This symphony seemed like they were made to play with each other. At the beginning I got excited for the concert because of all the media they show on the ceiling and walls.…

The performance I attended was the graduate recital for a student from UTEP, Diana L. Esparza. Although not quite an orchestral performance, the music presented still incorporated many of the concepts that we have reviewed over the semester, and a handful of composers that we have reviewed as well: two of these composers being Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, and Giuseppe Verdi. The overall nature of the pieces selected involved various genres that incorporate a singer in its scoring, as well as a piano and at one point a clarinet. Some of the genres utilized in the performance included arias (Ah! Je veux vivre, Ah, fors’é lui che l’anima… Sempre libera), lieds/art songs (Am See, Dein blaues Auge, Au bord de l’eau, Toujours) and…

Opening night, the dancers that performed in the University Dance Theatre production, had talent, agility, and graceful movements. The concert had a variety of dance genres, visual appeal, and emotions that each piece and the show overall represented. Humor, drama, and serenity were not emotions I thought I would receive while watching these dances. One thing I did not realize would make many of the pieces was how crucial and reliant lighting and graphics were necessary to make the piece more visually interesting. However, I was excepting similar dances and movements; even if, some pieces had comparable choreography and emotional appeal the diversity stood out.…

The performance attempted to give a dark but loving story which will keep you amused throughout the whole concert. I learned a lot about the choreographers in the performance by the way they presented themselves. Presentation means a lot and the way they proceeded was professional.
